Hi everyone,

I am not new to MFP but am new to the message boards :) I'm a 32 year-old SAHM of two boys (so much noise!), ages 4.5 and 2. It's a busy, crazy fun life. I am great with exercising (I hit the gym for five or six hour- long classes a week, which range from step to spin to Tabata to weights) but my binge eating is my downfall. I can count calories and eat well all day but at night once the house is quiet and DH and the boys are in bed, I eat mindlessly. It really needs to stop. I have about 30 pounds to lose.

I'm a vegetarian so I often have a hard time hitting my protein and fat counts without going over on carbs. Any tips would be appreciated!

I also have a hard time dealing with weekends; we are often eating at friends' homes so I have no clue how to count the calories in those meals, and then I go off on tracking for the entire weekend. Not good! How does everyone else handle tracking meals when they really have no idea what the counts are?

Thanks everyone :)

When you don't know the exact calories, try to find the closest thing to it, like if it's macaroni for example, sometimes there'll be a "generic" of "homemade" version on the MFP database!

I'm guessing your up early with the kids, so maybe start having earlier nights until your handling it better. Some nights I just want to munch, so I go to bed early!

Having plenty of protein is important to help you feel full.. Protein fiber and water. Drink your 8 glasses minimum and try to get 25-30g of fiber in...

To help with protein I'd look at getting a good vegetarian prptein powder and supplement your diet with it. This morning I had 2 scoops of whey strawberry protein, lots of ice, coconut milk and summer berries all whizzed up in the blender. Made 2 pint glasses of protein shake. Was delicious, filling and good macros. I find if I don't eat protein in the morning my day goes down hill.

Also other good breakfasts are full fat Fage with berries (the fat and protein fill you up.) or 2 eggs on whole meal toast. I feel if I eat a good breakfast and dinner I'm better at night. The Fage and prptein shake would also be a good filling night time. Snack.

I also love home made popcorn. Can have a lot for not too many calories. I have a set bed time.. 10pm.i save my night time snack for 9-9.30pm, then bed. Means I look forward to it, but then don't pick afterwards. Night times have been a huge down fall of mine in the past.

You sound like you have a very busy life. If your eating because your ravenously hungry then you may need to increase your daily calories a little

    Hope that helps!..

Eating out, you can usually estimate. If it looks unhealthy ask for a small portion. I do often take my own meals when I'm going to someone else's house for the evening. I cook a big chilli and freeze extra portions, I really enjoy it and don't feel like I'm missing out. People have been absolutely fine with me doing that.
