Gall Bladder

  • I used to have attacks before I started watching my diet. I avoid coffee, fatty foods, and egg yolks. I haven't had problems since.
It helps to start a day with a glass of warm water with lemon juice and a spoon of olive oil in it.

I had my gallbladder removed in November because of gallstones. I understand that it's common for women who have had children to develope gallstones. It has something to do with the way the pregnancy hormones effect the gallbladder.

Yep, had to have mine removed last year after losing 70ish lbs. I was told the same thing by my doctor. I don't miss it and have felt so much better since surgery.

It is a common side effect of QUICK weight loss and very low calorie/very low fat diets....http://win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/gallstones.htm

I've lost a total of 50 lbs including what I lost before joining MFP but it's taken me 10 months to lose it.

Yeah, my weight loss was slow and steady, took just over a year to lose 70 lbs and I never ate less than 1800 calories. I still had sludge, stones and slowed production. Had mine removed last year.

Just had my gall bladder removed yesterday. How long until I don't look pregnant! My stomach is gigantic and so uncomfortable right now! Been drinking lots and walking some. Any advice?
  • I started yoyo dieting very young (usually just not eating for days) and as a result had to get mine out in my early 20's.

I would check in with your surgeon--especially if you have any trace of a fever. Your surgeon should have someone working on call for him. If you start spiking a fever, or experience severe pain, you should go to the E.R. right away. If you aren't feeling significantly better by tomorrow, I would certainly ask for a follow-up visit with the surgeon.

    YES!
Because your gall bladder continues to produce for all the fats that you are no
longer eating thus you get the stones.
I lost mine the first time I lost 50 pounds about 7 years ago.
My surgery was not bad at all, just 5 little holes, I recover in 3 days.

I still have mine and I was having quite a few attacks when I would eat high fat food after eating very lean.

One trick that worked almost every time is black coffee, something in it causes a hormone to release and the stone to pass.

Like I would have an issue, drink a cup of coffee and it be gone with in 15 mins.

Did you have a laproscopic surgery? They inflate your abdomen to remove the gallbladder, so you'll be puffed for a couple of days, but it does pass. You'll feel better soon.
