Is MFP giving me the right info? (calorie deficit)

Hi everyone! So tonight I have been reading the message boards and have seen that a few people recommend calculating your TDEE, which i just did which is 2136, so I took 30% off of that (is that right?) and came up with 1495. MFP has been recommending that I eat 1200 calories so I changed it to the 1495 number and it came up with this:

YOUR DIET PROFILE TARGET:
Calories Burned
From Normal Daily Activity 2070 calories/day
Net Calories Consumed*
Your Daily Goal 1495.0 calories/day
Daily Calorie Deficit 575.0 calories
Projected Weight Loss 1.2 lbs/week

I'm a bit confused about this because it seems like quite a large calorie deficit, is this what i should be doing? :embarassed:

Sounds about right to me. From what I've read, you need a calorie deficit of 3500 per week in order to lose a lb a week. That's a deficit of 500 a day. I think the 1200 figure is the bare minimum you could drop to without compromising your metabolism. A deficit of five or six hundred should work well for you.

Edit - Don't forget that if you do any additional exercise you should eat back whatever the exercise burned off.
