New FitBit One won't pair with laptop

My husband just bought me the FitBit One for my birthday because I've been wanting one for ages. I was so excited to get it, but not I'm ready to return it because the stupid thing won't pair with my laptop. One of the main reasons I got the FitBit instead of a less expensive device was for the syncing with my laptop - if I can't do that, than what's the point! I have followed all of the directions, I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but it doesn't work. The FitBit, itself, seems to work, my laptop recognizes the dongle, but it simply will not pair! When I open FitBit connect I select "set up a new FitBit device" and then "existing user" (because I already have an account) but then it does nothing! I tried contacting FitBit Help, but they didn't give me any additional information that I didn't already get from their website and the users manual.

Did anyone else have this problem? How did you solve it?

I really want to use this FitBit! Please help!

    Have you charged the battery? I had a problem with mine in that I had an earlier version and it took me several tries to get the site to recognize my newer version. I just kept at it, but think that battery charging is an important component. Good luck.
