I am on MFP since april 14 and i must say it is so far an enjoyable experience. To be able to eat whatever you want as long as you stay within daily calorie range is far better than these fad diets, atkins macrobiotic diet fruit diets shakes etc. Every diet lacks an ingredient you crave for. Back in the 1970's and 80's when a weight issue was something i would never dream of having, many family members would count calories to lose weight. Unfortunate that back then all they had to rely on was a pocket size booklet that gave a general list of food categories with an approximate caloric value That was it. No fat sodium and sugar gram content . It was more of an estimation but it still worked. I dont believe they had weight scales for home use back then Now with the advent of the internet we can use a drop down menu on this site that is virtually user friendly to name brand items as well. I hope others have benefited from this system Good luck

glad you're finding success!
I agree with you. it's literally so easy to use and count calories with sites like this. I can't imagine using that little pocket sized booklet you mentioned. looking through that to find an approximate value for whatever food must have been a pain.
Good luck with the rest of your journey0 -
Yes it's a great weigh loss tool. Love your user name. My husband likes to pretend he is him sometimes :laugh:0

I thought it was a joke back then because i never had a weight problem growing up. I guess thats all they had to work with or else go with atkins or pritikin which were popular at the time0

I couldn't think of anything worse. Variety when it comes to food is really important to me. I don't want to have to give up anything at all.0

whatever you do never go with macrobiotic . To me , eating a bunch of lettuce cucumbers and other veggies with grilled chicken day after day is the same as steamed cauliflower with no dressing or hot sauce added . Yuuuck0

love the user name
I was on diets way back in the 70s, and used the little books.
A fad then was Ying Yang diet, day after day of plain brown rice, was allowed onion in it though, it was awful, and I still cannot stand brown rice after all the intervening years0 -
Brown rice is ok with me when chicken or beef with broccoli is added but there better be some sodium in that meal or you are in for a very disgusting awakening as far as taste0
