Funny taste in mouth - HELP!

Hello everyone

I just have a quick question. I just started doing a lot more exercise about a month ago and in the last two weeks I've noticed a really strange taste in my mouth, it's almost metallic and when I eat I would describe the taste as the smell that British Gas put into gas. Does anyone know what this is? I can taste it, so I don't think it's just bad breath!!

Thanks in advance.

Katie

Google Ketosis and, most likely, you need to make adjustments to your diet to correct it. This is usually attributed to a diet so low in carbs that the body can no longer replenish glycogen stores. You should definitely discuss your new lifestyle with your physician so you can be monitored.

Thank you! I gave it a quick Google and this sounds exactly right! I'm not a massive fan of any carb other than pasta (I'm funny with textures) but will try my best to carb it up!

It could be ketosis, but phantom smells and tastes can be symptoms of other things too. If it's persisted for 2 weeks, you need to schedule a dr's visit, just to make sure.

    Good luck. :)

I tend to get an odd taste in my mouth when I eat too much sugar, but since you said you aren't a carb eater, that probably isn't the case. . .

Definitely not pregnant, I'm forever alone!!!

I didn't eat properly at school/uni and used to get bad breath but I thought it was down to being sick a lot but come to think of it, it's probably the same taste. I will watch what I eat and see if it makes a difference. It's not as bad today.

Fruit is a carbohydrate, so it could help you with your intake/texture issue. Check out what foods are higher in carbs, since you don't like pasta and whatnot. That could help you a lot.

This is unlikely to be the problem but how are your teeth/gums? I noticed a weird taste a few weeks ago and it ended up being an infection ugh

I had them checked not too long ago but I do have my wisdom teeth coming through, which can be an issue I have heard.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions by the way!

I agree with the ketosis diagnosis but I have also noticed when I eat higher protien foods I tend to get the same thing. Greek yogurt, cheese, milk, protien bars, and even sometimes beef gives me a weird aftertaste that can last hours. I however am not in ketosis, I'm very often over my carb limit intake (mostly from fruits and veggies but I don't deny myself breads/pastas/rice).

Awesome. It could still be "woman" related. The cause of metalic taste during early pregnancy is a result of rising progesterone levels. After a woman ovulates each month, the progesterone rises regardless of whether or not she is pregnant. If no baby implants, the levels fall and your period starts. I have had this metallic taste several cycles where I was not pregnant, but my progesterone levels were just higher. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it continues past your next period.

I get the metallic taste in my mouth a lot too. No idea what its from. As for the gas thing....not so much. I dont think its bad breath either, mine lingers even after brushing my teeth and using listerine.

This happened to me when I first started eating better. I think it was some ketosis and yeast''s last fight since I cut out lots of refined sugars. I drank lots of water and kept on course and it went away. But it was horrible for a few weeks. It will pass.
