First Food of the morning

I keep hearing how important it is to eat as soon as you get up so that you can give your body energy and spark your metabolism. I'm sure there are many people who feel the way I do about eating when I first get up...blech...I just can't do it. I'm wondering what some of you do for your first food of the morning and what time you eat...and then, do you still have a breakfast? So, for example. I eat breakfast at 9:00 am, but I wake up at 6:00 am. If I eat something at 6:00 am, would I still want to eat a breakfast at 9:00? Also, what would be some good things to eat at that ungodly hour?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I get up at 5am. I drink my coffee at 6:15 on my way to work but don't eat breakfast until about 9am. Same thing on weekends, I have my coffee first then eat breakfast when I'm ready. I don't think what time of day you start eating has anything to do with your metabolism.0

Then don't. The most important thing is to get your cals, hit your macros, and kick *kitten* during your workouts. If eating first thing in the morning helps you with that, then go for it. If not, then don't. The importance of nutrient timing is largely overstated, especially in the face of bigger over-arching goals.0

I don't think you have to eat first thing. The advantages to not eating are that you don't like to, and you'll have more calories for later when you do enjoy eating:)
I, on the other hand, have a daily morning peanut butter habit:)0 -
yup the Myth of sparking your metabolism...Breakfast???? is whenever you want it..today my breakfast will be at 330 pm...woke up at 9 am...it just doesnt matter..overall calories and output and making sure you get Nutrients is numero uno...Eat when you want when u are a bit hungry and experiment0

I usually get up around 6 or 6:30am. Then I drink one or two cups of coffee while reading. I have breakfast around 9am. If I had breakfast any earlier, I would want to eat lunch at 10am! If you don't want to eat first thing in the morning, then don't. Dance to your own tune. It's the whole MFP program that will help you lose weight.0

Meal time is irrelevant. I wake up at 5:30AM and go about my business of getting ready for work. I bring my breakfast to work with me because I don't have time to eat it at home as I have an hour commute and I don't want to get up any earlier than I do. So I usually eat my breakfast at 8:30ish...I eat my Coach's Oats, strawberries, and 2 eggs scrambled every day Mon-Fri.0

If you're not hungy and nothing sounds good, don't force it! I actually get up at 3:30-4:00 a.m. for work. I am absolutely not hungry then. However, once at work I will usually have a mug or two of herbal tea and lots of water. I like to include fresh lemon juice in my tea and/or water (at least once or twice a day). There are a lot of benefits of this, including "getting things moving." Lol.
Despite the fact I wake up so early, I don't typically eat anything until 10:00 or 11:00. At that point I will drink my freshly prepared green lemonade and follow that with fresh fruit. That's just me! Everyone is different. Listen to your body and do what works for you.0 -
5 days out of the week, I get up at 5:00AM and have a bagel, greek yogurt, and black coffee around 6:45-7:10AM.
On my two days off, I get up whenever (hey we gotta sleep in sometimes!) and go right to eat. I woke up exactly 30 minutes ago and I've had my morning greek yogurt and about to unpeel a banana.
Undecided if I'm about to go for a run.0 -
Whole milk, eggs, bacon or sausage. Spinach and feta in the eggs. Or Chobani and fruit and nuts.0

I get up at 5AM, do a small workout 5:30-6:30AM. Then I eat Fruit Loops at 7:20AM. I can say I am full of energy from the sugar in the fruit loops and milk. I just have to watch my sugar levels for the rest of the day, which isn't a big problem since I'm not a dessert person.0

I get up at 4:30 am and have a banana around 5 am before heading to the gym. Have a protein shake when I get back, and then coffee (which is warm milk with instant coffee) around 9 am.
I only eat the banana because if I workout without eating I get really dizzy.
By 10 am, I have had a banana, protein shake 40 oz of water, and my coffee.
I have never been a breakfast person.... I am not usually hungry early in the morning. I usually don't get hungry till a few hours after I have been awake, and my coffee fills me up for another few hours. I usually snack on some almonds in the morning, if I need something.0 -
Wake up at 8, have breakfast about half 8. Porridge made with oats, water, honey, cinnamon and frozen berries. And a big mug of coffee. Can't function without it!0

Thank you for the advice! I joined a gym recently and got one free hour w/ a personal trainer and she pounded me on eating something as soon as I wake up to give me energy and spark my metabolism. She made the analogy that we wouldn't drive a car without putting fuel into it, so we need to treat our bodies the same. I'm just not into it at that hour. I try to be very careful about eating a good balance of food, sticking w/ my calorie goal of 1200 (more when I exercise hard) and working out 4-5 x's per week.
Y'all are awesome!!!0 -
I'm supposed to take my thyroid meds on an empty stomach and not eat for 30-60 minutes. I take my meds right away (sometimes with a cup of coffee) and then eat breakfast within an hour of getting up.0

I had the same problem of not being able to eat in the morning too. To change my habits I started having about seven almonds and a scoop of vanilla whey protein poweder mixed with some english breakfast tea. It kick starts my body and gets my metabolism going so that I have more time to burn through the day. I'd follow later with an AM snack tha was normally something like an apple or a greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom. Lately I have been getting hungry for real food and have moved on to an egg with spinach and peppers. Much tastier then the powder and a sure sign that my metabolism is firing up like it should.0
