Almost a year's worth of effort...

For 9 years I have been competing in the highland games - the first 4 years were sporadic (1 - 2 games a year, and just goofing off). The next four years were spent trying to win an overall game and progress from the "B" class to the "A"s (the highest amateur class). Training consisted of doing some practice throwing off and on, and doing some back exercises to keep from injuring myself. I've got a bunch of individual event medals, but winning an overall event just stayed out of reach for those 4 years. I hit a high weight of 380 lbs last spring, and decided that something needed to give.
I signed up with MFP almost a year ago, about the same time I joined a local gym to try to do some weight training. I walked in with the mindset of "curls, presses, machines". But that got booted out of my head a week in when some powerlifters let me work in with them on squats. I got addicted to powerlifting for my training. 2 times a week was my average, and I watched what I ate for the most part. Those guys became my training "coaches", helping me get my form straight and just providing overall encouragement.
I have now had two games under my belt for this year. I am at 355 lbs, and here's the new outcome: 4 new PRs out of 7 events, and I got my first place finish! I have made it to the "A"s, and am ready to throw with the big boys (and I mean BIG - these guys have average of 21" arms, and built like tanks!)
