understanding Cholesterol and Triglycerides

Hi all! I had my yearly check up a few weeks ago and as usual, my dr. didn't bother to tell me what the lab results mean... so I'm trying to figure it out on my own....
So from Feb 2012 to Apr. 2013,, here are some of my labs that I don't quite understand.
Total Cholesterol went from 207 to 199... That's good but could be better?
Triglycerides went from 99 to 58.. I think that's a good thing but I don't know what I did to make the change..
LDL from 141 to 138.. I need to get this down and HDL from 46 to 49..and I need to get this up?
So how do I get total cholesterol down, LDL down and HDL up?
I lift weights 3x a week, cardio 2x a week. I'm 45yrs old, female. about 22% body fat and eat roughly 1600 calories a day. Just so you know, I don't log in my food journal, It's a habit I've gotten out of.
