Yesterday after a break away from MFP (not intentional, have just not been taking care of myself for a couple of months really - never mind the years before that) I hopped on to the scale yesterday.
When I came away from MFP in feb I was 242lbs. Yesterday I read it as 241lbs... ok so I was still obese BUT I felt quite positive that I had managed to lose 1lb anyhow...
today for some reason I decided to weigh again.. turns out I did not read the numbers correctly and what I thought was a 1..was a 7!! I am 247lbs.
I know it should be more incentive to stick at it etc I just feel a bit bleugh now

Great! You've just learned something. You've learned that not stepping on the scale and not paying attention to what you eat does not work for you. So, now you go and try something else. You've just found a way that doesn't work. That does not make you a failure. The only way to fail is to give up.
Now my tip would be to make SMALL changes. So, start writing down what you eat to start with for example, without even changing what you eat, just so you get in the habit. Then, change one or two things you normally eat. A few weeks later add some exercise. If you change your whole life around you're just making it very hard on yourself.

I can understand why you would feel disappointed. The thing is, you have the relevant information now, and you have the tools to do something about it. Don't get too hung up on the numbers, if you think about it, you're pretty much in the same situation as the one you thought you were in. You're obese, and you want to change that. Take the steps right now to stop the situation getting any worse. You can do this. Don't let this get you down and not want to make changes. At the same time, don't let it panic you into doing anything silly or being over-restrictive. Don't make huge radical changes that you're not going to be able to sustain longer than a week. Don't punish yourself because you're a bit heavier than you'd thought.
Take a deep breath, log your food, hit your goals, and carry on. Hit your goals, don't try to have hundreds of calories left on the table; that's going to be counter-productive in the long run. You can do this. :flowerforyou:0 -

I lost 92 pounds after high-school and gained over 70 back. (I'm 22 now). I felt like I had literally ruined my life for about a year. In reality, letting the numbers overtake you is dangerous for your mental health. Instead of focusing on how much the bad things suck, focus on making progress and moving forward. It took me a long time and a lot of unnecessary anxiety to understand that, but it is far better than letting a small problem become a monster of a problem.0 -

Yes for sure don't get hung up on the numbers. There are lots of us here happy to help so start logging every day and you'll get to goal no problem!0

I can definitely understand feeling the letdown. You are thinking cool I didn't do so bad only to discover, Yes, I did. I would try to turn this into a positive experience by realizing how good it felt to feel you had this under control and were still losing. Knowing how much better that felt is a good incentive to take charge of your eating habits again.0

Way to go on getting back on track!!! But please dont let the scale discourage you. Your weight can actually fluctuate on a daily basis anywhere from 3 lbs or more. It depends on a lot of things, I would only weigh yourself once a week and rely more on measurements.0

Show up, participate, use the tools that are provided here and make changes. You are the only one who can take control of yourself. The weight didn't find you overnight and it will take time to get it off. You have to come to terms with how bad do you want to lose the weight. Don't let the scale control your moods. Like someone before me said, weigh once per week and whatever the result - absorb it and move on with constructive intent. If the result is poor, then figure out what you can change to keep improving. If you are serious about taking off the weight, then it is a lifestyle change. Say goodbye to old habits. It's not always easy, but it can be done. Stop the negative self-talk, be kind to yourself. What you do for yourself now lays the foundation for your future. Wishing you much success! :flowerforyou:0

Welcome back!! Don't worry about the change in weight. You MUST watch the trend in weight loss or maintenance over time. I use the daily weigh in to stop my self from stuffing things into my mouth as I will have to face the scale in the morning. If you cannot emotionally handle a 2-4 lb weight gain (I know yours was 7 but don't obsess), then you should not weigh every day. I log my weight, food and exercise for day. I read some of the motivational blogs and get inspired or help others. You must look at trend, not absolute numbers. Log every day so you are accountable for the things you put in your mouth.0
