Hi, I am about to turn 49 and have decided with the help of elevated blood pressure that it's time to start for real getting in shape, eating right and losing some weight. My weight crept on slowly- about 60lbs extra though I've held steady the last couple of years. Just got a treadmill and just finding my determination- last time I was in shape was about 12 years ago when my youngest child was born.

i can understand its too difficult to loose weight in static environment of saudia.when u just have to sit sit and sit eithr in an office or in a car or at your home.
i am an expat in saudia and is very well aware of the weight problems there.

I lived in Saudi for 5 years, currently living in Bahrain.... there's a group for MFPers in the Gulf region:

You really can help your blood pressure by making good nutrition choices! I was having heart problems & doctors wanted to put me on blood pressure medication when I was already trying to get off of the prescriptions I was on, & said enough is enough! It took me about a year & 1/2, but I did everything naturally, got off the meds I was on, didn't take any heart meds, & got my BP into a healthy range! It CAN happen!

Oh I hear you...it's not only in Saudi. Most people in the Arab countries are rather sedentary if you ask me. But Saudi is different, especially for a woman, I agree. My family lives there as well.

Good for you on trying to get into shape. Use your treadmill, and if you can get some heavy stuff to lift. That will help you to build some muscle and to help you burn more calories.

    Best of luck!

I'm currently in Saudia. Its not AS terrible really. I have lived in US. You can find activities or lack of activities everywhere.

I am currently in a gym where I can do stronglifts (google it, its a good weight lifting program if you wanna give it a try). But honestly, I just had to watch my calories and move more often. Before the gym I used to just walk/jog and I was still losing weight. You can do it. It won't be easy in the start but just stay persistant and keep logging your eats and exercise. Slowly make it a habit and try not to stay away from any food that you like because there is no such thing as "clean eating". Eat ruz. Eat mutabbaq. Eat mundi. I do! Just do it in smaller portions.

    Good luck :)
