I'm just really curious how off my HRM is.

I know we have different "fit" levels and different weight and so on, but I just would like to see if there is a pattern:

For example:

ME
41 y/o
145 lbs
5'4

1 hour, 20 min - brisk walking = my HRM shows I burned about 600 calories.
1 hour - Zumba = about 550
1 hour - Rollerblading = 600
1 hour - Elliptical = about 550

These are numbers taken from my HRM (polar f4).

This is just an exercise to see if my HRM is totally off calculating my calories. I know everyone is different. Please just humor me even if you don't have a HRM :flowerforyou:

On average I burn about 600 calories an hour. Depends how hard I push myself and if I let myself have any recovery time during that hour.

    I use a Polar F4
One hour of cardio that consist of a combination of (Treadmill, Elliptical, Precor or Aerobics)
Approx. 500 cals. when I stay in my fat burning zone which is about 130 - 140 bpm.
  • I have a polar HRM as well and I think it's accurate.

    * Running definitely burns the most cals in an hour- 600
    * Kickboxing- 400 calories for 45 mins

All other exercises I find don't burn as much
    * Walking for 1:30, I burn about 450 calories (walking at probably 14:00 min/mile)

I'm a similar weight, height and age to you - and burn a similar amount. I only eat about 3/4 of the calories though because I suspect the amounts could be slightly high.

You do a nice range of activities there!

I burned 550 at Zumba last night, and usually burn 250-300 in a 30 minute run. I'm 5'5", 27, own a Polar F7, and I'm 191 lbs. It seems safe to assume that any person burns around 100 cals for every 10 mins of solid effort.

ok well I can tell ya that when I do the 30 day shred and that is about 25 minutes long with warm up and cool down and I burn like 187 ( on a good day lol a lot of time is it more like 130s to the 160s) but I do my burn intervals for CE and in 45 minutes I burn a little over 400 calories. When I did Plyo for p90x I burned a little over 500 in the almost 60 minute work out.

Hope that helps you some Amiga!

Oh and I am 5'5, 32 years old and who the hell knows how much I really weight right now

That's exactly what my trainer told me - round 100 cals per ten minutes for hard work!

    ME
    49 y/o
    142 lbs
    5'6"

    92 minutes P90X Yoga X — 182 calories
    59 minutes P90X Plyo X — 346 calories
    75 minutes P90X Legs & Back/Ab Ripper X — 348 calories
    59 minutes P90X Kenpo X — 320 calories

These are numbers taken from my Polar F4 as well. I think they're lower than actual calories burned.

Jill Great workouts, but the burn does seem kinda low. I have a couple of friends doing p90x (KosMommy is one of them). and when they post it seems like more in the 400 and beyond. Have you adjusted your weight lose in the settings?

I just finished doing a Kettle Bell workout. My first time - Danskin Now - 10lb Bell

I had my HRM on and it showed I was at 89% of my target = 154 bpm while exercising, my total calories burned was 360 something for 38 minutes. I logged in 300. Sweat was dripping down my face and I have two wet underarms and a wet back. :ohwell:

Good to know. I'm just confused when I'm told there is no way I'm workiing out at 90% of my target Heart rate and my HRM is incorrect. When it seems everyone else is close to my numbers. :ohwell: Hey as long as we are Keeping it moving, that is better than nothing

I'm just eating 1,800 calories/day regardless of workout or rest day. I'm not too worried about weight loss right now, although I certainly don't want to gain any back. I'm just trying to eat what's necessary to kick butt in my workouts and get as strong as possible. If I lose some fat, that's a bonus! If I don't, I'll lose it doing Slim Series after this round of X is done.
