Potatoes, no need to cut them from your diet, unless you are preparing them with butter or oil.

Pasta, you can use less of it. If you are having a spaghetti dish, add some broccoli, or whatever veggies you enjoy, and then just use less pasta in that dish. Also, you can have pasta less often.

Bread, there is no substitute. It's calorie dense and nutrient poor refined food. It should just be eliminated, or at least reduced as much as you can stand.

WHAT?! Most ridiculous statement in this thread.

    Bread is delicious as well.

Someone's probably already said it, but CAULIFLOWER! I make hash browns out of grated cauliflower, or cauliflower crust pizza (which sounds terrible but actually rocks). We just figured out that we liked doing this, so we haven't tried making anything else. I have a friend who let me try cauliflower alfredo sauce that had no cheese and very little cream and it was amazing, tasted incredibly similar to a decent alfredo. I vote you search some cooking sites for cauliflower.

And, of course, you can always just track your calories. All the time on this web site people talk about losing weight while eating McDonald's, so I'm sure potatoes / pasta / bread couldn't hurt you any more, as long as you track calories and are under or at goal.

Yeah, uh, that's not right. Bread can be organic, unrefined, delicious, artisanal (artisan made), vegan, gluten-free, etc. Watch out, guy, or the almighty International Bakers' Guild will put you on their list...

Mashed cauliflower < just like potatoes yum.
I once in a while have a gluten free omega flax bread (very small pieces) all organic and healthy..
    Sweet potatoes are good!
A small amount of brown rice for example, a couple of teaspoons for the texture/feel with some protein and a ton of veg!

The is just a bunch of unnecessary stuff. Bread does not need to be eliminated.

    Especially if it's potato bread.

Cauliflower is a great alternative to potatoes - you can mash them just like potatoes - they're good. Zucchini spiraled into pasta noodles is terrific and easier than using Spaghetti Squash - I think it's a better alternative to pasta as well. You could go on amazon and type in "spiralizer" and they'll pop up - I have one and use it frequently - you can spiraled lots of cool stuff - zucchini, cucumbers, apples - there are three different blades so you can do thin noodles, linguine type noodles or ribbons - it's fun, quick and you won't notice your pasta missing a single bit. :)

There's nothing truthful in that statement.

Ha! Have you ever tried cauliflower crust pizza? I seriously hated on it until I tried. Then I had a taste... now, I'm a believer!

Never had any issues with potatoes. I lost weight eating baked potatoes regularly.
Bread - try sprouted grain breads. They lack the additives/emulsifiers etc that are added to most common store breads.
Pasta - I don't eat it at all anyway, but you could try those low calorie noodles or just have it occasionally and measure out your portion. Nothing intrinsically bad about any of these foods if had in moderation as part of a well rounded diet.

This will sound bizaar, but roasted RADISHES taste a lot like roasted potatoes. Sometimes I do a pan that is half potatoes and half radishes. A little OO and some spices. Yum!
