Whoa confused

I'm not sure I understand how My Fitness Pal came to the conclusion that I should eat only 1200 calories a day. Before I joined I used another website to calculate how many calories I should eat and it started me at around 2200 I think then as I lose weight the amount of calories I can eat in a day diminish. Even with exercise to gaint he extra calories to eat, I don't think I can stay satisfied and will end of overeating.

You can go into the settings and change your goal... it manually estimates what you should lose in terms of pounds per week and it estimates a pound a week. I entered mine manually.

Click on "my home," then "goals," then scroll down and you can change it. You can only do it on the computer I think?
  • It probably has to do with how many lbs you said you wanted to lose per week. If you shoot for 1 lb a week, you'll be granted a reasonable caloric intake that won't frustrate you or burn you out too fast. Take it slow, and just know that it's a lifestyle change not a quick fix. One lb a week would lose you 52 lbs in a year!

I would calculate my BMR and TDEE and set goals manually.

Yeah, it has to do with 1.) how active you said you are 2.) what your weight loss goal is set to. Did you say "sedentary"? Did you say "2 pounds (loss) per week"? That's usually the two things that will make MFP set you at 1200.

Not sure what calculator you used or what you might've input differently but I would assume it has to do with the fact that MFP doesn't take into account your activity until you actually do exercise and log it. So yes, you only get 1200 initially but if you go to the gym or for a walk or whatever for an hour or so, you'll get somewhere around 400-600 more calories for your day which is a bit closer to the number that other site gave you.
