Leg Machines

Yesterday I tried using the machine for your but where you lay down and use your legs to curl the bar back. OMG did it hurt just doing 1 set of ten I thought my hamstring and @$$ were about to explode. Does anyone else use this as apart of their leg strength training program, what else do you do for legs to see results? Im cursed with big hips

I use the leg curl machine as one of very few machines I actually use.

For instance here is my heavy leg workout day (as heavy weights as I can)

4 sets x 10 reps squats (either back squats, or a mixture of back squats and goblet squats)
3 sets x 15 reps (each leg) walking lunges holding a barbell or a weight straight up
3 sets x 10, 20, 30 reps leg extension machine (drop sets, meaning start with heavier weights for less reps, drop to medium weight for more reps, and lighter weight for most reps)
    3 sets x 10 reps leg press
    4 sets x 15 reps leg curl
3 sets x 12 reps stiff legged deadlifts
    1 x 10 reps box jumps
    5 x 10 reps plyometric lunges

I also have a lighter leg workout day (more reps lighter weights)

3 x 15 reps (each leg) step up with oblique crunch
3 x 20 reps plank with glute kickback
3 x 20 reps glute raise on floor
3 x 20 reps (each leg) walking lunges
    3 x 15 reps kettlebell swing
    3 x 15 reps still legged deadlifts

I also do HIIT on the treadmill 2 days a week for 20 minutes each (not on days I do the above - usually I will do upper body weights first on the days I do HIIT).

Those machines are good for training just the legs, especially if you have any asymmetries in strength between your left and right leg (those can be hard to detect in a squat but can have a variety of unwanted consequences). But obviously you'd have to use them one-legged for that.

On those machines, how much do you think I should lift like 40lbs or so

If you want maximum strength gains (as opposed to size), I would do the highest weight you can handle for about 5 reps.
