A MFP friend posted on her status today that she was no longer morbidly obese. It hadn't occurred to me to check until she said and when I looked I was so happy to find out that I too am now just obese. Next stop overweight lol!

Ha, I had the same thing happen to me, felt like I "Graduated".

But I have to question the whole BMI scale though. In my case, it says normal weight range for a 43 year old male at 5'10" (i.e. me), says I should be between 130 and 170 lbs. I don't think so, I was an Offensive Lineman in high school and University for a total of 8 years, I'm pretty sure the last time I weighed 170 was when I was 14 or 15 years old. That isn't going to happen, and even if it did, I feel I would be really underweight. So, I know I will always be in the obese range for life, no matter how much improved my health will be in the future.

This is a great point and to be my correct BMI I need to be under 150lbs which I haven't been since I was in high school but I am aiming for 135 as it is the mid of my healthy range and I am only short so I guess I should be able to do ti. I'd never thought of it between the sexes but you're right they make no allowance for the different builds between men and women. I also now that even though I am heavy I am getting very fit as I exercise daily so maybe you don't need to be in the healthy BMI to be healthy? Something to consider...

Woohoo, awesome! My numbers are very close to yours and I was super excited to be "just obese" on the scale as well! Though honestly- I'll never be in the "healthy range" as I am prone to being muscular, so my GW is around 155-160 and if I'm higher than that but healthy with a low body fat % I'll be just as happy. :)
