Tips for over-eating?

Doesn't seem to matter if I eat "filling" foods or not, but I constantly think about grabbing a snack. My worst problem with my diet is that I ALWAYS end up over-eating, it's my weakness. Any tips for beating this bad habit?

Sounds like you may be a compulsive eater. Buy the book Change Your Brain Change Your Body by Dr. Daniel Amen. Seriously, buy it. You can get it cheap on Amazon. I think everyone should own a copy. I used his tips to conquer my biggest eating problem, impulsive eating. I'm not really an overeater, but I have had major problems with trigger foods. Now I control them instead of them controlling me.0

Chew gum! I find if I'm chewing gum, I don't want to eat. It stimulates me enought that I don't think about eating anything else.0

If you get the urge to eat, brush your teeth! Sounds crazy, but it works. Most people don't want to eat anything after brushing their teeth and having that fresh minty taste in their mouth.
Or, if you're not in the situation to brush your teeth, find some really strong mint gum; same effect.0 -
Grab some water! It helps to feel full.
Try a healthy substitution if you are craving something in particular. Like if I want something chocolatey, I make a chocolate smoothie or grab a low sugar high protein bar (like Think Thin bars). Or if I want something crunchy, I make no -butter air- popped corn.
I have the same thing when it comes to food and the amount of time I spend thinking about it. Its killer when I go to a party, I just want to hang out at the food table. But I remind myself that I can't hide behind food and I should get out there and socialize
Another good tip I found here on MFP, is to turn off the kitchen lights after dinner and cleaning. When the lights are off it reminds me that I have no reason to go in the kitchen.0 -

I think I'll be looking for this book myself, thanks!0 -
i have this problem too and have a hard time fighting it...
ill use low calorie foods to keep my mouth busy (like pickles, carrots, brocolli) or as said chewing gum...
it also helps if i workout to keep my mind off it, and when im done i wont eat because im too proud of my workout ^_^
I believe i have a disorder because i center my life around food.
but im working on changing my train of thought.0 -
I'm having the EXACT same problem as you. I find myself eating thousands of calories of junk over my limit and have trouble getting back on track.
Clean out all the unhealthy foods to the back of your kitchen and place the healthier ones in front. Like a granola bar instead of chocolate, yogurt instead of pudding.0 -

I wish I could, but when you live with three other people who like junk food, it's practically impossible.0 -
Thanks for the tips guys, the thing that would work best for me is probably gum or brushing my teeth. Things that make me feel full don't tend to work, I eat even when I'm full and ending up getting a stomach ache. I usually only overeat at meals as well, I'm finding eating less and then drinking a cup of tea after wards deters me from over-eating. Thanks again!0
