Abs are built in the kitchen?

So what kind of foods are good for transforming the midsection? I have cut out sugars and starches, I don't drink.... is there anything that can really promote a pretty midsection, or is it just about cutting out the crap?

The kind of foods that cause you to have a calorie deficit. There are no special snowflake foods. Sorry!1

I think you misunderstood, that phrase means you have to do crunches in the kitchen for maximum toning0 -
Abs are about lowering your body fat, so sounds like you're on the right track.
However if you're over weight and carry your excess weight on your midsection (apple shape) you will have a more difficult time cutting in abs. Unless your question is about reducing belly fat in general, you can't really specifically spot reduce a certain body part, but you can tone it up to make it look better, however overall fat loss should be your goal.0 -

funny. I only have a few of inches of fat to lose on my midsection, I'm fairly happy with my body elsewhere... I do abwork when I exercise along with cardio, but my belly has always been a trouble zone... maybe its the 4 babies I've had.. I can feel my abs under there... I just can't seem to get rid of the excess flubber to show them off.0 -
Overall body fat reduction is the only thing that will help. You can't spot reduce and there aren't any specific foods that will have an effect on belly fat. When people say "abs are made in the kitchen" they don't mean eat certain foods. They just mean that you can do all the crunches in the world but if your abs are hidden under layers of fat because you eat too much they still won't show.0

No potato chips, no corn chips, etc... Crunches with celery, carrots, pickles, etc.0 -

I can relate. Stomach is my last place to lose fat for me too...
...and I have four kids also, but that probably doesn't have anything to do with it for me.
As has been said, a calorie deficit leads to fat/weight loss. Where from first/next/last is beyond our control.0 -
Well I currently don't have "6 pack", but did in HS. All I can say is moderation on a lot of the stuff you eat. You don't have to cut out sugar, rather limit it and get natural sugars such as those coming from fruits. I would say a balanced diet with fruits, veggies, lean proteins (eggs if vegetarian, beans if vegan) and essential fats (those coming from almonds, fish, peanut butter etc).
The key though is moderation. If you consume a diet high in protein and very few fats, you can possibly store this extra protein as fat as your body doesn't know what to do with it (outside of excrete the excess to put it politely!)
I would say berries, green tea, bananas are some excellent additions to add to your diet if you don't already. Berries, Green Tea really good for skin and bananas help with bloating- which can be frustrating if you are trying to see your abs you have worked hard for!
Other foods that are good for getting your essential fats are flax seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds (more expensive of the group).
Lastly, I would say if you are not vegan, to get some whey protein. Having some of this throughout the day can help tremendously (in my opinion). And if you are vegan, can get some soy protein or veggie protein!0
