Straight cardio burn or mix in toning?!?!

I still have (want) about 35ish pounds to lose. I have been doing Zumba mixing in circuit. Then straight Zumba for awhile. I tried hip hop abs (liked it and it kicked my behind!) on Monday. Was going to do that every other day and Zumba in between for a nice cardio burn.
I knew I worked my thighs and arms with hip hop as they burned through the work out but did not realize till last night my abs definitely got a work out too. I thought since they were not burning during the workout that I was not doing that part correctly. It hurt to sit up from a laying down position..so I guess I did it right after all LOL

My questions: facts and opinions both welcome..,should I bother with toning (which I think HHA is) now? Should I wait till I lose more before starting to tone? Obviously I will not see any muscle sticking out till fat is removed from that area so I am not sure if it would be worth my time now or use the workout time to burn more calories with high cardio. Mind you..fitness wise I am such a newbie.
