Hello all-

I found out I have mono on Monday. I have stayed home from work until today. I am also going to get married in a month and need to lose the last few pounds. Does anyone know if I can exercise with mono? My doctor told me when I first got it that I couldn't run because I might fall and hurt my spleen. I was just wondering how long to wait/what I can do in the meantime. I also don't have the degree of mono where I feel like I might die. I don't feel good, but not horrible. THoughts?

THANKS!!

:noway: No you should not be working out with mono, you need lots of rest or you will probably get sick again. Take it easy for another week and then call your dr. and ask him if you are well enough to start working out again, you need to be safe and well!

Ahhh - ok ..I saw where you stated ..."my doctor told me...." I am always amused that people go to the doctor but then question advice:grumble: . So have to ask - why did you go - if you are not wanitng /willing to follow advice given? :frown: BTW - you do not have mono to the degree you feel like you might die. Ok - so care to disregard medical advice and fall over at the alter?
Have to strongly agree with harley girl.

Definitely dont work out without a doctors ok. You dont want to be damaging your spleen. Call your doctor and ask what he thinks for a time frame.

I had mono once. Believe me, you dont want it getting any worse

I had nono this year, and was forced to quit soccer.. :( i workedout even tho the doctor said no and i got worse to the point where i couldnt walk. Just dont do. I know its frustrating when your trying to lose weight but your body needs to rest for you to get better faster.

I concur with everyone else here... I wouldn't do it. I had mono in the 8th grade and had to quit all sports for several months. And to this day (I'm 35), I still require more sleep than most people. Really - it's tough for your body to fight it. If you feel up to it - take some nice evening strolls with your fiance (don't go alone for awhile) and just concentrate on eating as nutritiously as possible. You don't want to have a relapse... trust me!

To have found out that you have it on Monday and already be at work today is even pushing it in my humble opinion. I missed a month of school when I had it. The sore throat went away within a week and a half - but the exhaustion lasted for a REALLY long time. Be kind to yourself!

No, most certainly not! I had mono for almost six months, I worked 2 jobs and still wanted to hang out with my friends. I wound up Completely unable to move. AND found out I was pregnant too. Worst thing I've EVER had!

And, I lost a few pounds durning that time. You may lose weight even without exercise. Just be careful and focus only on getting better. It can last a very long time if you aren't careful. I knew a girl who missed out on graduation and had to repeat her senior year.

    Take care of yourself!

Just focus on your diet and don't worry about exercise. You can definitely lose a few pounds by just being strict about your diet. Be sure to get all of your macro/micro nutrients in, though...your body is fighting a nasty virus that can become a chronic infection if you are unlucky (like me :p). Don't risk it; you want your health and your spleen for your wedding!
