Realizing you have a body to take care of

Since losing 40-odd lbs (still got 30 lbs to go), and that thing of your brain lagging wayyyyy behind on your body, did/does anyone else have that realization that you should or can, or even want to start taking better care of yourself?

It's not just that I'm taking better care of myself food-wise, and exercise-wise. It's also that my body has responded and I now actually notice it. For me, I had been the ultimate of 'letting myself go' over the years. It's only now, when I've got rid of a whole bunch of unflattering clothes and had to actually buy new clothes, that I realize...well, my god, do I need to buy giant granny knickers any more?

The other day I bought some UK size 10 knickers, in the 'bikini' style. As in, they sit quite low. Before, when I was bigger, I was a firm believer in giant granny knickers. Anything that hugged my giant belly to protect it from the unfairness of the world. But the other day, I thought well why not, lets go crazy and buy SMALLER knickers. And they looked good on me. I was confused.

Same thing with my face - I've only started noticing that my face is significantly smaller. Then, I noticed my hair and I was stunned to realize that I'm going to start having...haircuts.

And let's not even start on the whole body-hair removal world. I mean, it's nice that I now have less skin to go over when I shave. But man, I'm going to have to start paying attention to these things now I don't want to hide my entire body under great swathes of fabric.

I'm going to have to start grooming! Madness! I'd completely forgotten about this facet of human existence before.

I know what you mean on needing to change how you present yourself. I didn't let myself go...I never had someone to help me get there the first time. I have really enjoyed getting involved in things like hair and clothing, almost for the first time in my life. Not only do I love how I present myself now (though I also have a way to go), but people respond to me much differently.

Still waiting for people to respond differently to me! That, or I'm so not used to it that I'm not noticing it??
