Having trouble getting all of my calories in...

I know this topic has to have been put up before, but I don't have time to search through everything to find them. Any way, my current calorie goal is at 1710 which I upped from 1550 because I have increased my work outs and have become more active over the last several months and I don't want to stall out on the progress that I have already made. My problem is that even when I was at 1550 I had a hard time eating enough and then when exercise calories get factored in I sometimes don't even net 1000 calories. I typically eat about every three hours or so and try not to eat after 8pm, so overall, I don't really feel hungry. I have lost right around 40lbs and have almost 90lbs to still lose. I need to find some ways to add more calories into my diet without adding a lot of "fluff" or empty calories. I am also diabetic and have high blood pressure so I have to be careful of too much sugar and fatty stuff. My diary is open for people to see and I am open to any suggestions.

Oh, I think it is okay if you eat under your calorie goal, or even if you decide to keep it at 1200 calories a day, because you have a lot to lose. Just make sure you net 1200 calories a day you need your nutrition. I start feeling really bad when I don't eat enough. I've been sick and not been able to really eat lately and I just feel lethargic and off even today and I feel better except for a cough. I went to a personal trainer a couple times to see what it was like but could not afford to keep going. He said I should eat 1200 calories a day and he was very professional.0 -
Avocado, full fat dairy, nuts, peanut butter or nut butters, etc. Google calorie dense foods, pick some things that fit into your diabetic needs and enjoy. I just recently upped from 1550 to 1690 myself, started losing again. Just remember as you slim down and change your body composition you will need to rework your numbers about every month or so. I do it every 30 days or if my body starts to "revolt" on what I am currently eating.0

Stop using the 'light, fat free and diet' versions of everything.0

I just looked at your food log. You have very few whole grains, veggies, and protein in your diet.0 -

I kind of had your problem when I was losing weight last time. Do you really enjoy eating what you are eating? Are those the foods you really enjoy? Don't just eat things because they are low calorie. you will burn out. I did. I ate so much oatmeal the last time I lost weight that I cannot stand it now. I used to like it. What did cook when you gained weight? Can you try to have those meals in moderation or a healthier version and add some new healthy meals as well or just try to eat balanced meals at every meal? I am really trying to be balanced in letting myself have regular food this time and not just food that is low in calories. It is helping me not feel so deprived, so far at least.0 -

^^ great advice right here!!!0 -
Lots more protein. Peanuts or Almonds would be a great start.0

It's okay to eat after 8pm unless it causes you discomfort while sleeping. Meal timing has been shown to have very little effect on weight loss.0

I had the same issue trying to go from 160 to 185. Eating clean and consuming enough calories can be difficult. I started eating my eggs whole instead of just whites. Increased my portions a little at each meal and threw in some more fat to get there.0

I really do like what I eat. I try to mix it up so I don't eat the same thing every day, but I enjoy most food. I know someone earlier suggested that I stop using light, low fat varieties, but I also have to make sure that I am not blowing my blood sugar out of the water so I have to take the amount of carbs and sugars into account with everything I eat.
As far as cooking meals I used to cook when I gained weight. They really haven't changed that much as my husband still likes to eat all of those things. I have just cut back on the amount I have been eating.0 -

It causes too much trouble with morning blood sugar levels for me.0 -

Light and Low Cal varieties often have more sugars than the regular versions. I learned that when I was cooking for my grandmother after she was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes.0 -
Can you see a registered dietitian about wanting to up calories yet maintain steady blood sugar levels? A professional should be able to help you balance both parts. Congrats on the progress you've made and good luck for your journey ahead!0

Is there some reason you're not tracking sugar? I know the tracker skews the numbers by treating fruit and milk the same as "added" sugar, but I track it anyway and if I go over my goal, I check the entries to see what contributed and the consider the source accordingly.
I only looked at a couple of days and saw some "emptier" sorts of choices, like ice cream and cookies, you might do better replacing them with plain yogurt mixed with "real" fruit (so you have more control of the sweetness/sugar). Other healthy alternatives for snacks that add calories are guacamole (avocado) and nut butters - select quantities according to what you need to meet your macros.0
