How long do you wear your contacts?

I used to change them everyday but I became tired of it so now I leave them in for 3-4 days in a row. Does anyone else leave them in for a while?

You're asking for trouble. Contacts block oxygen from reaching your cornea, and can lead to ulcers or even blindness. No bueno.

I have the day and night...30 day wear contacts so I can leave them in for 30 days straight then throw them away after the 30 days. I love these contacts!

I have the contacts you're meant to put in in the morning and take out at night.
I used to wear mine for up to 3 or 4 days at a time.
That was until I had to see an eye-specialist for some or other issue I was having (can't remember now what it was), and then I found out that I had holes in my retina :frown:
I had to have 'laser surgery' to correct it and since then I do not keep them in overnight.
I'm not sure if that was what caused it, but I'm not taking anymore chances!

I switched to the daily contacts. Fresh new pair every day and my eyes have never felt better. It's so low maintenance as well. Love it.

I have the 30-day day and night contacts, but I take mine out every night. Don't want the chance of having a contact getting stuck and lost on the back of my eye. Yuck.

I wear RGPs, so have to take them out every day. Wish I could wear the soft or disposable ones; they are much easier on your eyes. :(

Depends. Might be a day or a week or a cpl weeks or a month. Which is better than three months, like I did as a teen.

I wear the 30 day "Day and Night" ones too and love them. However, OP, if you have ordinary lenses then you really don't want to be wearing them overnight, they could cause real damage. You need to take them out at night as they don't allow as much oxygen through as the ones that are designed to be worn all the time. Splash out on the 30-day wear ones, you won't regret it. Unless you suffer badly from dry eyes, in which case they may not suit you...

can anyone give me advice about putting in contacts? I've never worn them before because I have keratoconus and was told in the past that contacts don't work for it... but more recently a hospital eye doctor questioned the diagnosis, sent me for tests, the results being I have keratoconus in one eye but normal astigmatism in the other, and can wear contacts. I have a different type for each eye and the right eye one (for keratoconus) is weighted at the bottom to keep it the right way up, the other one is a normal contact lens.

I have a trial for a one month lens, i.e. has to be thrown away after a month. I tried putting them in in the shop, but can't manage to get it in by myself (the optician managed to so I know it can go in)... I'm not freaked out about it touching my eyeball, I just have oversensitive reflexes and keep blinking so it won't go in. plus the right one has to go in the right way up which makes it a bit more difficult!!

Any tips would be very gratefully appreciated!!!!

Wash hands, put contact on tip of finger. Using your other hand, open your eyelids wide enough to mean your lashes don't get in the way. Look towards your nose and Pop contact against white of eye.

Gently close eyes and the contact will centre.

    Repeat with other eye.

I do my worst eye first. And I wear dailys for about 12-16 hours. Don't wear them longer. I had the day and night ones and had a corneal ulcer in under a week. They really hurt.

I'm sick of changing them everyday most of the time! so sometimes I keep them for 2-3 days in rows! XD
But I know this is wrong and it should be daily basis in order to let some oxygen get in.

I'm not an expert or a dr. to say anything for keratoconus ! but I think it is possible since u went for a test and seems everything is good as they told u after the diagnosis that u are able to wear contact lens! so go for it :)

I think sqeekyjojo give u the best way in how to wear the contact lens ! let me know if u need more details :)

I have the 30 day Day and Night contacts. I do take mine out everynight; however, I don't dispose of them when the 30 days are up. I usually wear them for another month or two or until they start bothering my eyes.

thank you... not tried it looking at my nose, i was looking in the mirror before. It's difficult opening my eyelids wide enough because my eyes are quite small apparently. I wasn't aware of that before lol.

definitely going to be really careful with my cornea... keratoconus is due to internal weakness in the cornea (it kind of collapses into a cone shape), although the doctor said that my corneal thickness is really good in spite of the keratoconus which is unusual... he was surprised to see it on the other test (eye topography) because based on the cornea thickness test, I shouldn't have it at all. So I'm hoping that means the keratoconus is not going to get any worse. But I'm not going to do anything that might do anything to damage my corneas!!

I take them out when I go to sleep. I don't dispose of them until months later. I use the hydro peroxide (sp) the solution that makes bubbles in the case and you have to let the contacts sit in it for at least 6 hrs before wearing.

I wear the same 30 day ones and absolutely love them. I just use rewetting drops if my eyes feel dry. Some contacts are to be changed daily, weekly, or monthly. You absolutely should adhere to the directions of the type you are wearing because each are designed differently.
