Running and Achilles Tendonitis

After years of not running, I started running again last year. In an effort to keep up with another friend, I increased my mileage base way too quickly and of course regretted it after ending up with achillies tendonitis. Now after 4 months of not running, it still hurts. I miss running. Instead I walk, added weight training, Tabata and just about everything in between to make up for it. The only thing I haven't done yet is add cycling back in. But still, I miss running.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what did you do to help it heal and cope with not being able to run? Welcome suggestions and feedback!
