BAD shin splits - cardio alternative?

I have horribly bad shin splints from running (I officiate high school lacrosse). I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good cardio workout would give my shin splints a bit of a rest. Does it exist?

    Okay thanks. I know the elliptical and treadmill/walking/jogging are out. I don't have access to a pool so I will try the bike.
