    I've managed several online communities and forums and am running one now.

    This community is no different than any other. The perceived anonymity empowers folks to say things they'd never say to your face. I try not to let it bother me. But it does.

    There's nothing really to be done about it, unless the moderators choose to boot people who cross the line. And I'm loathe to do that b/c that line can be subjective. Most people are truly trying to be helpful, even many of the bullies. They just don't realize they're being bullies.

    wait, so the people in the other online communities and forums you manage are not anonymous? or they just don't perceive their anonymity?
