I just wanted to tell you all .....

So I strayed from MFP for a few weeks and was trying out a few other fitness sites to see how I like them and on one of those sites there was a 30 yo man who was in pretty good shape (muscular) and wanted to lose some body fat. He was going to cut his calories down super low (like 1200).
Armed with all I have learned from this wonderful site (and personal experience) I told him to be careful because at first you'll lose weight but after a few months you will stall and the scale will stop moving completly. then I said that it is due to your body going into a sort of starvation mode and I gave him the link the a really good calculator for BMR and all that good stuff.

THEN I got told off by the community there for not knowing what I was talking about because there is no such thing as starvation mode and all cutting calories to super low does is make you lose weight faster and that starvation mode has never been proven scientifically since the dawn of mankind (well I looked into it and it actually HAS been proven- its due to your metabolism dropping dramatically and it occurs after a month or two of eating too low calories)
At first I was hurt, and angry, and I thought about coming back to defend myself but I realized that I don't really care what they say. I know whats true from personal experience. It happened to me and I don't have to prove myself to them and I don't want to be a part of a community that is there only to try to make each other look stupid.

SO back to what I wanted to tell all of you. Everyone who is reading this right know.

THANK YOU. thank you for being here, thank you for losing weight with me, thank you for all of your advice and support, thank you for not being a jerk to one another, and thank you for being you.

You are loved.

that is all.

sorry for my mini-rant story.

    That's not a rant.

Glad to see you're keeping this in perspective. The internet, like anywhere in life, is full of all kinds, and many like to use the perceived anonymity of the net to display behaviors that they would never dream of doing if they were there in person.

For many people, once they have latched on to a point of view (in anything) rational discussion is impossible. Dialogue happens when all parties are willing to consider that they might not have all of the facts. Like a parachute, a mind works best when it's open.
