So I'm hearing a lot of bad things about high fructose corn syrup. We actually tried taking it out of my daughters diet due to her wetting the bed and I found out then that this stuff is in EVERYTHING. The family loves spaghetti and ketchup and its in those two wonderful things. I'm wondering what we can do to help to cut out as much of this stuff as possible.

Become a label reader. There are versions of most products that do not have HFCS--many mfg actually call attention to that fact on their label. Franz Bread, for instance, has many types of bread that are whole grain and no HFCS. The prepared spaghetti sauce and ketchup in organic versions should not have any. And as for the sauce, you can make your own with diced tomatoes, onions, italian seasoning, some tomato paste, better for you and lower in sodium than the processed stuff. It will require a little effort, but you can find alternatives to foods that have HFCS. Good luck!!

Thank you so much. I have thought about making my own and will this fall when my tomatoes are ready to go.

I'm really sorry to hear that. :frown: Yes, HFCS does have nasty effects on your blood sugar and such. Highly processed. Bad stuff. Try organics. I have two different kinds of organic ketchup in the fridge, one Heinz and the other Kroger brand, and neither has it. I'm out of spaghetti sauce at the moment, but I could just swear that the Bertolli organic sauce we buy doesn't have it either. Also, you may want to try feeding your daughter more whole foods and less processed ones. Good luck!

This one sounds good! You could leave the sodium out, and you could use beef if you wanted to. I'm definitely gonna make this one. I think my SO is gonna kill me over the cost of all those herbs!

Organic ketchup does not contain HFCS. Also, Hunts just removed all HFCS from their ketchups and they are cheaper than organic.

We use Newmans pasta sauce when I'm in a rush and don't have my own prepared. Amy's is good too.

    Good luck.

I make my own. Mayonnaise, salad dressings, ketchup, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, etc...............
