Does alcohol make you gain weight?

I had 3 double shots of Gin and slimline tonic 3 nights ago still under my dailiy allowance. Eaten clean all day and the day before i had previously broken through a 4 week plateau. Today I have gone back up to my plateau weight even though not eaten bad foods not had alot of salt and not gone over my goal im netting around 1300 so not under 1200. Any ideas?

Well, I've never heard of alcohol making you lose weight!

    They are empty calories...

3 double shots at 72 calories per shot is 432 calories, without much but pure sugar to show for it.

If you had 432 calories of excess, then it shouldn't make you "gain" so to speak. Are you weighing yourself more than once a week? I know it's hard, but I try to stay OFF the scale until every Monday morning or Wednesday morning to allow the daily weight fluctuations a person has not interfere with my brain.

As long as you are accurately logging those alcohol calories, then no, it won't make you gain weight. Like the other poster said, they are just empty calories (sugars) that have no associated benefits (minerals, vitamins, fiber etc) but if you feel you getting enough of those things in the rest of your diet then a bit of indulgence now and again isn't going to hurt you.

i had 3 beers last night within my calories and i lost 0.7 lbs this morning. could be dehydration, i don't know.

but sometimes i can see the scale go up like 3 lbs after a night of drinking, or a couple days after.

it's different for everyone, but if the scale went up fast, it should come off fast.

If you drink alcohol and go over your TDEE then yes, it's possible to gain weight. The biggest culprits with weight gain because of drinking are the sugary mixers (soda and juice) and sometimes people tend to snack while drinking.

When I have alcohol, I try to increase my water intake proportionally. For example, if I have one glass of wine, I also drink a full glass of water with the wine. My body needs at least 80 ounces of water per day, in order to avoid dehydration, which leads to a host of challenges. I'm not sure if this avoids weight gain, but it helps with hydration.

Deffo did not go over i can assure you!! I lost weight day after drinking due to dehydration so was suprised that scale moved back up to plateau weight today.
I do weigh every day it is my motivation keeps me going either way i.e gained makes me want to lose it staying same makes me want to lose and so same as losing it makes me more determined. Different for everyone i guess.

Eating anything that puts you in a caloric surplus will make you gain weight over time.

There is no sugar in gin. It's alcohol, the 4th macro.
If you didn't go over your cal limit you won't gain.
