Whoopsie! Thanks to this thread I have yet another problem with my body O.o
Seriously, yea, I also have a wide rib cage, and wide hips, and strong thick muscles where other people have their ankles/food wrists/whatever you call them. But I do have a lovely waist in-between ribs and hips that I love to put emphasis on with my clothing. I know I'll never be as slander as others, but I'm quite happy with my body.

I like my big rib cage. It makes my boobs look bigger, and gives my body more of an "hourglass" shape, although I'm not a true hourglass as I don't have big boobs, so in terms of what clothes suit me, "inverted triangle" fashion advice tends to suit me better. I don't have much waist because my rib cage ends about 1 inch above my pelvis. But because my rib cage is big it doesn't notice so much, as in I still have hourglass figure measurements.

  • Hi, I'm Leslie. I'm 5'6 and weigh 113lbs. I have a large rib cage that makes me look fat compared to all my friends who are the same exact height and weight as me. I don't know what to do. I work out about 4 times a week and I eat mostly healthy, I'm a vegetarian. Does anyone know how I can make myself look leaner? Clothes, workouts, eating choices?

I have a big ribcage, too. I think corsets are great for squishy in the midsection, who knows, if I were fond enough of not breathing I might even wear them long enough and tight enough to reduce an inch or two, but rearrange bones? No. Even if it's possible. No. :noway:

You would look better if you put on a little weight my love, I say that because I have looked like you in my seemingly endless quest to get exactly the same tummy you want and the only thing that has worked was eating more and lifting weights. I was probably about 18 when I looked as you do in your pictures, I'm 29 now so that's how long it has taken me to re-educate myself. My rib cage is still large and I know now I will never get that photo ideal but I'm a heck of a lot closer to it than I was. Doing the best I can with what I was given! Trust me, losing more weight will not get you the shape you want, your ribs will just stick out even more. :flowerforyou:

I'm so glad this thread was brought back to life. All these years I suffered under the delusion that my wide rib cage was an asset. Is it too late for me to bind my chest and pile on the textbooks while I sleep, or am I doomed to live with this hideous deformity?

Actually from some doctors viewpoint corsetting is a viable option for correcting a protruding ribcage. When I became pregnant with my son I was at least 100 pound overweight and then gained another 30 on my doctors request. Once I had him they failed to give me the maternity girdle and I didn't even know I should have had one. The maternity girdle would have acted very much like a corset. After giving birth the bones stay pliant for a time and this is why the girdle is so very much necessary, if we want to guarantee having the best after baby body we can. Now that I've lost weight I can see that my ribs stick out at the bottom and my pelvic bones are pushed out to the side, so much so that i have barely any pelvic bone in the front. For me its not genetics that caused my ribs to flare and protrud outward, it was having a baby and excess fat pressing them outward. No one in my family has ribs like mine. My body structure is identical to my mothers aside from the protruding ribs and abnormal pelvic bone. The bone issue does cause pain for me during intimate times. The slightest amount of pressure on the bottom of my ribs causes them to ache for days and the lack of pelvic bone situated where its suppose to be, well you can just imagine. There's a doctor online talking about using corsets for correcting such problems. It just takes a long time and a lot of patience to get long lasting/permanent results. Would be best to find such a doctor and have the PROPER type of corset custom made, so as not to cause any harm to ones self. For me its not about waist size, its about getting my body back to the way it should have been. I believe the doctor said that for someone without other medical issues a "funnel top" corset would work for correcting a protruding ribcage. Once I'm at my target weight and I've ever got a couple hundred dollars to blow I'll definitely be looking into a custom made corset to correct what should have been corrected 8 years ago (after I had m son).
  • USMCMP,

I think you look amazing. I also have a large rib cage and I would love to look like you. What exercises did you do?

Whenever people mention their big rib cages I just think about Bettie Page.

(it's too big to actually post, but I promise you she's wearing a swimsuit and this picture is only intended to point out the size of her rib cage.)

I think she's gorgeous, for the record.
This necro is ok, because Bettie is awesome.
Oh so much Bettie. I would have had so much fun with her.... lol.

I have this condition and it's hereditary in my case. Every other male generation in my family has this "Extruded Chest". My ribs and lungs are abnormally large and I actually have a better breathing capacity and can hold my breath for quite long. There's no real medical deficiency with it but like you even when i was really thin i never had an even plane on my body!

You look great. I really don't see a problem. Maybe I have a large rib cage too and never knew there was such a thing.
I have fat stubby toes & short toenails. They look fat. I wish I could change them so my feet would look better in sandals!

I'm built the same way! I think the bigger ribs actually add a little weight, though they also give me more of an hourglass shape from the front...so, there's that. But yes, we will never have that flat, lean shape, unfortunately. I don't know about you but also can't wear clothes with elastic defined waists (the elastic never knows where to land on my body), or spanx-type body shapers (they roll down if they're meant to partially cover the ribs). And while I'm an A cup in bra sizes, I need a 38in band, which is hard to find. So, I feel your pain. No one believes me when I mention my big ribs, until i do what you did and lay down on my back. Crazy. I'm relieved I'm not the only one

That's crazy! I was just looking at mine last night. Lol I was wondering the same thing. I just started my journey but my stomach is getting smaller and I can see under my breast starting to form the beginning of abs, but it's poking out a lot. I tried laying down to see if it'll go down, but it's still there..

Triple necro! This. Could. Be. A. Record!
  • I feel like I have a very big ribcage. It's pretty much directly under my shoulders, I'm not sure if that's normal. I have a pretty flat stomach, but I'm scared that I appear fat because I'm short and my ribcage is so wide. I'm a teen, so I'm hoping that I'll grow into it (I didn't use to be like this)...??? Any advice?
