Is running/jogging w/ camelbacks ok?

I know camelbacks are used for hiking and runners use those fuel belts, but is it ok to use a small camelback for, let's say a 10k? Wasn't sure if its bad for your back and why people use fuel belts instead because they seem really uncomfortable and wobbly!

Huh, I've never heard of a "fuel belt". Must look into this. I hate carrying water bottles and the backpack thing seems extremely annoying, but a belt seems genius.0

There are hydration backpacks for running. I use a Nathan pack. My regular hiking camelback isn't made correctly for the motion and it chafes. Pack vs. belt is a personal preference. For just a 10k, I don't think you would need either so long as there are water stations.0

One of the nice things about running it that you can do it however you want. I know several people that run with the camelbacks. I tried it for a while and found it very uncomfortable.0

Aside from the camelbak bouncing around a bit, I've never had any problem running with them. They don't really weigh that much, and their weight goes down over the course of the run.0

I've worn mine in 2 half marathons and a 10 miler... It kinda shifts around uncomfortably sometimes and you have to adjust the straps about once a mile but I'll never run without one again!0 -
personally I hate it for running, feels awkward...the fuel belt is the WORST! My handheld water bottle is the best it straps on and I don't have to grip anything!0

I have a nathans hydration pack. I don't know if I would use it in a 10k. I would HATE to wear a belt though.
I used it so far on a 7k trail run that didn't have any water, and I will use it on a 1/2 marathon.

I run with a Camelbak Octane XCT Hydration Pack.
Mine holds 3 liters of water. It also has enough room left for keys and phone (maybe a protein bar). Its designed for running and doesn't move around much. I really recommend this if your going to run with a hydro pack on.0 -

Okay yeah, that sounds way better!0
