Men's or Women's Athletic Shoes?

I wear a 12W women's New Balance. I have trouble finding this size in stores where I can try them on so I have to order on line. This is a big headache because it sometimes takes several times returning and ordering something different before I just settle for what I think will work. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if men's shoes would work for me because I can find those sizes in local stores. I walk about 3 miles 5 days a week and it is time for me to get a new pair. I welcome your opinions.

My running shoes are Nike, and I bought men's, because the women's weren't comfortable for me. I say try out the men's, if you get them home and they're not comfortable, simply return them! Good luck!

I have a pair of men's runners because the toe box is roomy and they feel great. You're the one wearing them, get them if they are right for you and who cares what gender they are for!!

I've worn men's sneakers for years (I don't like shoes with pink or baby blue, no sissy stuff for me...). However, I just bought a pair of women's Nike Freerun 3 running shoes and LOVE them... they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They feel like gloves made for my feet. I hike 5-7 miles a day and am on week 1 of C25K.

I actually prefer the Men's styles because they tend to be more neutral, not so many "candy/fruity" colors

I wear a womens 12 as well and I feel your pain! Our size is so hard to find in stores! I am currently wearing a pair of Avia's women's size 12 that I love. I have wide toes but a very narrow heel which is so hard to fit. I found mine at Academy. If you don't have any luck finding your size, I'd say try men's shoes and let us know how they work for you!

I would take the time to get my feet sized right and order special shoes if I needed to. Running with ill fitting shoes is a recipe for injuries.
