pedometer use

so we are doing a pedometer challenge at work, and i've been tracking my steps since May 1st. i haven't been able to hit 10,000 steps any day. i know that i would have had higher steps on some days, except i took it off when i went on my bike ride. i'm not sure how i can judge my activity level when i only have about 5,000 steps, but i went on a pretty intense 1 hour bike ride. it doesn't really seem "fair" that i would have to run/walk/elliptical just to try to get my steps up to 10,000.

my question: am i supposed to wear it even during my bike ride and hope it registers some movement? should i take it off for ALL exercise and get 10,000 steps on top of my exercise?

either way, it looks like i need to up the activity level a bit. i do work a desk job and thought i was pretty good about getting up and walking around, but apparently not!

get up in the am put it on
go to bed at night take it of
put it on and leave it on this way you have a better picture of your over all movement.

I can't help you but I need to ask how to register steps or miles instead of minutes walked? I just got a fitbit and it tells me the number of miles I have travelled and calories burned but it really doesn't work with MFP or vice versa. I hate having to enter my food diary on each site too. There must be an easier way. HELP

Leave it on but override the calories for the times you do exercise. Use the stop/start function to log that time then go in and look and see what times you actually did it. Then use that to override it in MFP.

Edit to add: For the override I'm only referring to the exercises that aren't even semi-accurately counted by fitbit. For those I use an HRM.

All of it is an estimate. There is a margin of error. That's even true for your food packages. The idea is to reduce that margin as much as possible.

thankfully it's not a fitbit, just a plain ol' pedometer, and i'm not actually using it to track calories. i just wanna make sure i'm doing the 10,000 daily recommended steps. i do have an actual HRM for exercise. thanks!

Link your fitbit account with MFP. I log all of my activity (other than steps) with fitbit and it adjusts my activity calories on MFP. I log all of my food on MFP and it does the calorie adjustment on the fitbit site. I don't have to do duplicate entry on either site. The one thing that does not happen is your activity totals are not listed on your MFP feed, but the calorie burn is listed on your home page and in your food diary.
