Does Anyone Do Aqua Aerobics?

My local gym does aqua aerobics classes and I'm considering giving it a go but I'm not sure if it'll do any good. I can't exercise for long because the pain in my joints is too much, so I was tempted to start swimming and riding a bike.

Anyone got any advice? I'd love to be able to go swimming again coz I love it, but I'm terrified of being seen in a bathing suit =(

    That form of exercise would be great for you as the water will support your joints while you workout!

    I did aqua aerobics when I was pregnant as it was good at supporting my weight. I also did it years ago and enjoyed it. I think it would be great for you if you suffer from joint pain.

    Don't worry about how you'll look in a swimsuit! I looked like a beached whale when I was pregnant and no-one cared.

    Take a good look around you at the swimming pool then you'll be over it :) (Hey not bashing I am included in that ;p) Go and work out! You will be SO glad!!

    My mom has arthritis and she does it.

    It's an awesome low impact exercise that will help your joints not hurt as much.

    See if any place has a warm water pool.. thats even better!

    I did water aerobics all last summer, three days a week. In the two months that I did it, I lost over 20 pounds. It was a lot of fun and you didn't even know you were working out! I'm counting down the days when it starts back again.

    Water Aerobics is great for your joints! Definitely do it. I have terrible "arthur" and the water aerobics is wonderful for it!

    I was doing it when I weighed over 300lbs so get your butt in a swimsuit and do it! :)

    I feel the same sometimes, but promise you that people are there to focus on what they're doing. They don't care what you look like in a swimsuit! And even if they did, would that make them worthy of your worries? Nah!

    Aqua aerobics is an awesome way to exercise. At the place where I took classes there were people of all sizes, ages, etc. I usually wear shorts over my swimsuit, but really no one cares what anyone looks like. It's a nice, low impact way to get that heart rate up and get moving.

    I go twice a week for Aqua classes, and swim on other days. It's a great way to get
    exercise, I have degenerative joint and disc disease, it's the only method of exercise
    I can do. You will be able to move about more in the water, and if you go on a regular
    basis, you will notice a nice loss of inches. My scales don't move a lot but I can tell
    a huge difference in my clothes. Good Luck!

    That type of exercise would be perfect for joints. I did that while I was pregnant.

    I go once a week with a friend who has RA. (she's 25). It's so much gentler on the joints, but you still work hard. Harder if, like us, you would never be able to manage a full hour dance type class on land.

    In the classes I go to, they give you tips on how to alter what you do to get a higher intensity workout. Sweating whilst in the water feels wrong !

    Best class I did was effectively a boxercise session. It was hard going, but felt really good.

    I do water aerobics 5 days a week including 2 classes that are specific for arthritis sufferers. When I started 10 months ago I couldn't stand up straight, my knees hurt constantly and I had a hip that kept going out of place. I am now upright, am starting to walk outside (up to a mile at a time now), my knees rarely hurt, and my hip seems to be staying in place. I am 100+ lbs overweight, don't worry about what you look like, everybody is concentrating on themselves not on you!! Good luck, enjoy the water!! :bigsmile:
