How do? Jumping in here...

Hi- I'm Dave.

I've been using MFP for about 10 days, lost 6 lb already, still have a ways on my journey, though...

After struggling with weight issues all my life, about 7 years ago ( at 338 lb) I decided I'd had enough, and lost 102 lb in 18 months via diet, exercise, and the help of a great trainer/ accountability partner. I vividly remember, after an off week for Christmas, how I cringed when I had to show my food log the following week and tell him that I'd had a few candy canes...;-)

But- life happens, and sometimes poor habits can return if we're not vigilant. I wasn't, started to regain some...then when my late wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, I put all my focus on her health and making the most of our remaining time together...and promptly forgot to give a rip about my own health. 3 years later- POOF! 300 lb again. (NO excuse intended- I could have made good choices for myself while tending to her.)

I started to lose again on my own prior to her passing several months ago just with some dietary changes (as in, stopping consumption of mass quantities of salty snacks as faux "comfort"). I began treadmilling inconsistently, doing some yoga at home...and with my recent losses, am down to about 258.

Now, I want to drop another 50, just recently retained a trainer, and have upped the exercise.

I'm also partially motivated in an unusual way; I've taken the leap into the jungle of online dating, and let me just say that it's crystal-clear that, no matter HOW much personality and character you bring to the table...that venue is All About The Picture, and the rejection of the overweight is clear, unmistakeable, and Darwinian.

Back when I lost my weight before, I was exercising 15+ hours a week; I'm 55 now, and rebuilding that capacity with an older, slower, weaker metabolism will take longer I suspect.. ANY AND ALL tips, suggestions and support welcomed. And CONGRATS to one and all here for your successes AND for your efforts!

Dave
