I actually beat depression with diet changes, it is absolutely possible that a great diet can change your outlook/mood. A GREAT diet can give you fantastic mental stability and a great barrier to fight against negative thinking.

I know how you feel. Well for me I had depression because of a medical condition and it had lead me to stay in my house for a long time.

However let me tell you. Anti-depressants did not work for me. I couldn't sleep and once the medication "wore" off I would get extremely aggravated. Also it does not SOLVE the problem. So I would avoid taking medication, unless you felt it was best for you and you wanted to experience the outcome of what it will do for you.

Secondly, go find a counsellor or a therapist a third-party who can listen to your concerns.. just someone you can talk ANYTHING about to, no judgment. If not, find a reliable anonymous depression forum and just vent out there, you should get a reply and/or replies if it's a well-known site.** It's very important to not drown in your sorrows by yourself.

Exercise is one of the things like people mentioned, that have helped me along the way. Now I look at it as more of a break/distraction. For example enroll in a class surrounded with people, meet the fitness instructors (zumba, pilates, yoga, bootcamp, etc.). Meeting new people and being accountable with them is a great thing. Now I'm not going to lie, it's not going to solve the whole problem, but EXERCISING or enrolling in some type of people-program will definitely help you get through tough times.

Above all else seek professional help and they will definitely assess your particular situation and give you methods in dealing with everyday life.

It does get better overtime, as cliche as it sounds. I was a non-believer too.. but after 1 year, things have gotten better.. and I do believe the will continue to get better.

***p.s this is not for everyone- But going to a good psychic can give you a lot of CLARITY!!!! For example if you ask certain questions about how you can move forward, or how your situation is headed etc.

Please see a Doctor and let them find out how bad your depression is.
I live with severe depression, anxiety, etc.
Exercise can help .... but may not take it all away.
I have 2 dogs and they help a lot but still.... depression.
I have to take medication... I was on 14 medications but weaned myself down to 3 pills a night.
Everyone wants to help but everyones depression is completely different.
Please go see a psychiatrist, that is your best bet.
Whether you need medication or not is best found out by a professional and not something to take lightly.

    Feel better soon !

Vitamin D with K2 (only take them together) and also add B12. You can get a great quality spray at mercola.com. You NEED to get up and move the #1 way to fight Depression is through exercise no excuses just do it! Help others out instead of watching TV go help out at a food bank or some other charitable organization (church or anything)... it’s hard to be depressed if you do all of these things. You can start by telling yourself you can only watch TV when you exercise. You will decrease your viewing time and increase your exercise. Best wishes and you can pull through this. : )
Good idea, therever be extremely careful with K2 and ask your doctor if it is right for you. K2 can be exremely bad for certain health conditions and blood disorders.

K2 is in your food already and if you have a disorder that would require you to avoid it you would know (your on anticlotting meds). It is necessary to convert supplemental D to a useable form and without it D can cause more harm than good. It is also water soluble vitamin so you can't OD on it. D however you can get too much of but it is highly unlikely most people are deficient. You can have any lab test your D levels at any time. Here is so reliable information about K so you don’t fear it.
There are no known adverse effects of consuming too much vitamin K from foods or supplements, so an upper intake level hasn’t been set for healthy people.
Individuals taking anticoagulant (anticlotting) medications such as warfarin (also known as Coumadin) need to keep a consistent intake of vitamin K. This medication decreases the activity of vitamin K and prolongs the time it takes for blood to clot.
If these individuals suddenly increase the vitamin K in their diets, the vitamin can override the effect of the drug, enabling the blood to clot too quickly. In contrast, a sudden decline in dietary vitamin K can enhance the effectiveness of the drug.
Green leafy vegetables such as kale, collard greens, and spinach as well as broccoli are rich sources of vitamin K (you would have to avoid these foods if you were told not to have vitamin K).

Any hints on what to do about depression? I don't work during the week and I just sit and watch tv...hate it..have not motivation at all and life sucks...unless im with someone. I should be able to be happy and go lucky by myself as well.

Start taking some Fish oil. It helped me pull out of my depression. Also make sure you're eating enough carbs. Low amounts of carbs can do some serious damage.

Seriously, get into therapy. Perhaps you need medication. I suffer from depression and have been on meds . They help tremendously. You need to find out why you are depressed. Why dont you have a job? Go to school. Forget the dog. Focus on yourself.

I've switched to a primal/paleo style of eating & yoga. The combination seems to be helping my lifelong depression/anxiety. I'm also giving therapy another go.

Go see a doctor, depression can not be beat by food and exercise alone, medication is an important part of treatment.

I agree with everyone else that diet and exercise are really important but please see a doctor.
This. I have a pet. I take vitamins specifically to ensure it's not exacerbated by vitamin deficiency. I walk everywhere, and plug away on my Gazelle 45 minutes at a time. None of these work for me in combating my depression without help from a trained professional.

    Good luck.

Not an expert but I'm thinking what you described is NOT Clinical Depression...sounds kinda like "Life's Blues or Blahs". I recommend CHANGE, just change...You have the ability to CHANGE! And it does NOT have to be done tomorrow, it will take as long as it takes..ENJOY the Journey!

Make a different world for yourself. I know Clinically Depressed people who have changed their Life, by changing what they eat (lots of Raw fruit and Veggies, juicing...) and exercise; most importantly they changed their outlook and attitude. They know that THEY are responsible for their Happiness, and THAT IS a CHOICE! Remember: YOU ATTRACT what you THINK and FEEL about, whether positive or negative.

Have you actually been diagnosed with clinical depression, or do you just feel down? Clinical depression is a serious mental illness that is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can be totally debilitating.

The first thing you should do is see your doctor. As others have mentioned, there are lifestyle changes you can make that help reduce depression, but for some people, medication and therapy are necessary. There is nothing wrong with taking medication for a mental illness. If you had a heart condition, you would take meds, right?

Always seek the advise of your doctor before taking any extra supplements other than the ones he/she is already aware of. If you eat food rich in K2 you should have no need for the supplement or any other supplement for that matter. Eating properly is the best and will save you money in the long term as your body will just release the excess in your urine. Your doctor may also recommend you sit down with your pharmacy specialist to go over which supplements you are taking, advising which one you need to add and which one your are already get enough in from your daily food intake.
We are here to help and give ideas but you shuld always always do what is recommended by your doctor.
