Tips on applying for jobs out of state?

Hello!

My husband and I currently live in Tampa, FL. We want to relocate back to the northeast (I am originally from western mass outside Springfield and he grew up 20 mins east of Hartford) to be closer to our family. Although, I love Florida, we have missed so much being so far away! We've been here for 5 years now, and have only been able to visit just a handful of times because of lack of money.

We originally got here, because at the time a company I worked for owned a company here and I transferred. I was laid off June 2011, and now have another employment. So, for myself getting down here was easy. However, now it seems relocating is a lot harder. My husband works in IT and I work in law. Any tips on applying for a job 1300 miles away? We would love to be there as soon as possible.

Thanks for any suggestions, i appreciate it. :)

When I relocated to NC from NY i applied for a bunch of jobs and scheduled the interviews all within the same week. I drove to NC checked into my hotel room and went to the interviews. I was offered a job on my third day. After, I said yes to the job. I started looking for a place to live. I got everything done and went home on my fifth day. I put in my notice at my job in NY and two weeks later I was in NC. I also didn't take any furniture with me, just whatever would fit in my car.
Maybe, you could do something similar, or contact a job agency or realtor for help.

Always ask if they are willing to cover relocation/moving expenses.
