Those girls didn't look that strong to me anyway, more ordinary-looking, but I think one of them is involved in gymnastics.
Leg extensions is also a machine that I'm often surprised at the amount of weights many of these girls are lifiting.
What were they supposed to look like? There is a common misconception that women who strength train are huge.
This chick deadlifts 315lbs. I'm guessing in a tshirt you would think she didn't look that strong either.
EDIT - resizing
I have serious doubts that "this chick" deadlifts 315lbs. Is she an olympic athelete? The world record in the 133lb weight class is 344lbs (data from WPF).
She's 142 lbs in the pic on the right. And if 315 lbs is her 1RP, then she may be deadlifting 255 lbs x 8 or 270x5 and then tracking her 1RM data (which is not a bad way to track strength if you change reps between workouts). Can't deny she looks good at 131 and GREAT at 142. Me like.
It's good but not world class. I can pull 305 at 122. I just did 298 in a meet a few weeks ago, weighing 121 and I woke up sick. I compete but I'm not world class. I have no problem believing someone her size can do that. We tend to think things that we don't see often are out of reach or abnormal.0 -

She has the pelvic V. That's impressive.
kind of.
some people it pops more easily than others- I can get a high 2-4 pack- and still have substantial "low" belly and have the sex muscles.
But Staci is fab. and her abs are fab.
she's just ... fantastic- really a sweet heart too.
And she's is a regular person- the only reason she competes at a high level is because she trains for it- nothing is stopping anybody from doing the same thing if the drive is there.
Being an "elite athlete" isn't some magic pill that makes you lift more or be in better shape or have a lower body fat- she still works her *kitten* for for those numbers.
Don't belittle HER accomplishments because you aren't willing to work hard for yours.
Whoa! I wasn't belittling, I was complimenting. She's impressive because she's obviously worked hard to get to where she is and she's something for me to strive for. I haven't accomplished the V yet but I hope to someday soon with all the hard work, both nutritionally and physically that I'm putting in.
How in the world did you think I was belittling her? I'm seriously confused since I routinely love what you post.0 -

I hope so. I had a moment, not literally. I must be a bit oversensitive today.

I guess our experiences shapes our beliefs. I, for instance, have been in relationships with three diffierent men, and I've had stronger legs than all three. Two of them were quite physically active in sports. The last one was my workout-partner and also worked as a fysiotherapist. He was the one who first brought to my attention the "assymetrical" (?) relationship between men/women - upper/lower body.0

What do you mean by asymmetrical relationship?0 -

I was not referencing your quote for the second half- I apologize- normally I go in and copy paste to multi quote to make it clear what I'm referencing and I got lazy.
I was talking about the lady who said she seriously doubted staci could lift that much.
<hugs> don't punch ovaries- that's no fun- punch a man instea... I mean punching bag instead

What about Sara on here? She's tiny, and lifts a ridiculous amount of weight. She's amazing.
I was just thinking the same thing. I originally responded to this post last year and didn't know Sara then. She is a perfect example for this.
^Agreed. She's a huge inspiration for me. 325lb+ deadlift. Just WOW. I want to do that (if I ever get access to barbells) :laugh:0 -

No worries. I overreacted and realized that was probably the case with the help of the other poster. Thanks for the clarification though. :drinker:0 -

My legs are stronger than most guys. My upper body is weaker than most guys.
These girls are really strong! I'm so glad they got that way naturally. There are 3 women at my gym that are older like I am. They spray tan (meh), bleach the hair (fried it's awful), and look like they use roids. Women that don't "juice" skip the man face (roiding changes your facial structure), the deep, weird voice and don't get the "lumpy" muscle look. The power lifting girls pictured here look almost smooth, like gymnasts, if that makes any sense. I wish all women had the confidence and discipline to train hard and lift heavy without turning to steroids.
those women juice because they lack confidence and discipline? interesting0 -

I am just wondering how you figured out that you are an average looking guy?
Have you been with a few tens, some 5s but mostly 6s and 7s?
Just wondering because I kind of want to know how to define myself.
10.. Would bang.
We are talking about men. The number rating is nearly irrelevant in a discussion of "would bang." Or at the least, one factor of many that will come into play.0 -

She kicks *kitten*. I'm twice her size and I will be thrilled when I pull 325. I've purposely knocked down my weight because I felt like my form wasn't up to snuff and I needed to fix it before really ramping up again.0 -
Why did a thread about male vs. female leg strength have to turn into a female vs. female pissing contest over who can lift the most? Way to represent the female lifting community.0

pretty sure it was only one or two- everyone else was countering that by supporting by giving similar evidence that it's not that out of context to be able to pull that much.0 -

and insecurity- because that's what girls do- they wind up taking the gear because they are insecure0 -

Yah I don't see a pissing contest just a couple people, one guy one girl disputing that woman can lift heavy...and the rest saying yes we can...and yup just as average janes going to the gym can lift heavy...0 -

I am fairly new to lifting heavy. been slowly increasing my weight since late February. Currently I squat/deadlift 90 lbs, 4 sets of 8-10 reps but lately its been getting easier so I think it's time to up the weight, maybe to 100lbs. Love when I get to increase the weights! But I'm wondering if I should go even heavier and do less reps. Opinions are welcome0
-
I rarely see any women even try to use "heavy" weights for anything so you must train in a great gym. I once saw a tall, muscular, Amazonian looking woman Squat 225 lbs deeeeeep for about 5 reps and she was definitely on steroids and weighed about 180 at least. Leg press is a bit different. If you use a limited range of motion you can pile on a lot of weight and that will impress some naive people but those of us who know what's going on, aren't impressed. I'd like to see those girls leg pressing the weight and bringing their knees way back to their shoulders. I guarantee they'd have to drop the weight. Reality's one tough customer.
lol.
So because a female is squatting 225 lbs for 5 reps means she is on steroids?0 -

Personal preference but up my weight every two weeks by about 5 lbs each time. If I find I can't do that, I go back to the previous week's weight loads. I usually do 5 reps and five sets. If I fail at four early on in the sets, I cut back. If I know I could push out a sixth or even a seventh, I go higher. Some weeks I just can't sustain a load that I could do the month prior, sometimes I feel like superwoman and get a new PR.
Something I learned recently regarding number of reps:
1- 5 = strength
5- 10 = hypertrophy
10-15 = endurance
Your rep range should be determined by your end goals.0 -

Yea, those of us that know what is going on. I hear ya, brah. :noway:0 -
I just want to clarify a few things because my post keeps getting resurrected and causing controversy:
-I never said Staci can't lift that weight OR that her accomplishment wasn't impressive. She obviously can and she obviously is. At the time I posted that, she was unnamed and unsourced. Someone posted her picture and her numbers with nothing else.
-Recognizing someone's athletic accomplishment as elite or not-average is NOT an insult or a cop out. (How does this even need clarification?)
It's not okay to just put up random pictures (and by random I mean with no source or even a name) of someone who is not you on the internet and throw up some numbers. I had a good reason to doubt. People are forgetting that this post is from a year ago, and that the person my original post was in reference to subsequently told everyone who this person was. The original post I quoted had none of that information.
Furthermore, if you are a woman who weighs less than 150, can squat 200 5x5 or deadlift 300+ you are NOT average! You are fantastic, you are way way above average.0 -

Great tips, thanks so much! I am looking to build mass in my legs so I suppose strength (1-5) would be the way to go!0 -

Strength =/= size of muscle/gains.
If you are looking for mass, then you are aiming for hypertrophy (aside from eating at a surplus). the 1-5 reps focuses on strength with little hypertrophy. 6-10/12 is focused on hypertrophy, then strength. Hypertrophy is the enlargement of an organ or tissue from the increase in size of its cells.0
