water weight

I've seen people talking about water weight and how it, combined with sodium intake, can account for fluctuating weight, eg. adding/losing a number of lbs.
Please can someone explain this! Does a high sodium intake mean your body holds on to more water?
Thanks!

Yes, basically, that is what it means. When I started here at MFP, I lost almost 14lbs the first 2 weeks. I thought how is this possible? Man, this is going to be easy! Well, SNAP! My doctor explained to me that my normal food I had been eating was loaded with sodium, and making me retain my fluids. When I got on here, and went to low sodium, I noticed I started peeing more. She said now that I don't have the sodium level high like it use to be, my system was letting loose all the fluid it had been storing, and that I would slow down on the loosing when the extra was gone. Well, unfortunetly, she was right. Now I am loosing 1-3 lbs a week. Hope that helps!0
