Reoriented after sickness(?)

I have just gotten over a ridiculous gastrointestinal virus that had me sick for 5 of the past 7 days (oddly, the two days I wasn't sick fell in between days that I was!) and I'm extremely thankful that I am finally able to eat something other than saltines and applesauce. I am also thankful for something else, wholly unexpected; a renewed sense of healthy eating, living and a focus on exercise.

While I know it wasn't just a psycho-somatic symptom of my less than healthy eating of late (as my husband and 15 month old have also been sick) I have to wonder if at least a part of my experience was induced by my horrible food choices. I'm 30 weeks pregnant, and I've been indulging in those 3rd trimester cravings something fierce; I'd simply lost the drive and focus to choose healthy options over the fast, sweet and salty. I only have 10 more weeks before baby Dels #2 arrives (hopefully no later than that!!!) and I'm really energized and looking forward to making it a healthy 2.5 months :)

So I'm curious, has anyone else experienced this sort of thing after being violently ill (vomiting and diarrhea) for days?

  • after being ill i tend not to want anything greasy or fried or too salty etc, so i guess so, yes. i had surgery a month ago and was bed ridden for a week, feeling sick from the anaethesia and bowels blocked etc. last week when i was more or less 'back to normal' ive really wanted salads and stuff, my body is craving a health kick if you like.
