Hello, I am new to the message board but I am not new to my fitness pall. I long in everyday to make myself accountable regarding food intake. I have been reading so many comments about weight loss surgery and many of them are not very kind. The truth be told it took me over 3 years to decide to have gastric bypass surgery. I read almost everything I could get my hands on to make sure that I had all the information I needed. I also spoke with my doctor and my endocrinologist about this surgery. I had become desperate, my knees were getting back and walking was too difficult for me, I had high blood pressure, borderline diabetic, and the final straw came when I had to go for a sleep study for sleep apnea due to being overweight. I honestly tried Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig,Nutrisystem and a list of my own diets and nothing with long term results for me. I kept going into a depression that would not go away. I was depressed because I was fat and fat because I was depressed, what a vicious cycle. I finally went to a local bariatric support goup meeting and met the surgeron. I finally had my surgery, the first 2 weeks were really rough ( I kid you not) but it has been 8 weeks since my surgery and every week it keeps getting better. I am just starting to feel like a human being again. I am getting my energy back and I feel like socializing with people again. This surgery is not for everyone it is hard and yes you can gain weight back but I am using this surgery as a tool to get back to eating like a normal person again. I have no need to overeat and at times I even have to remind myself to eat( that is a first for me). I can walk by cupcakes, cookies and Ice Cream and I careless about these things. This is a life long commitment I have made for myself and there is no going back to the old me. I like the new me way to much. So many of you who have been successful losing lots of weight on your own I congratulate you are your success. I wish I could have been more successful and I mean that but I really needed an intervention to reset my stomach and start from scratch like a new born baby. this is serious surgery but I was so desperate and I made this descision based on what I knew about myself and my health and struggles. Whatever you decided, it will be the right one just for you. I take it "one day at a time" and life is about the journey not the destination. Good luck to you all. I wish you all good health.
