Weight lifting for women

I thought I'd share my new love with you all and how easy it has been to learn about how, when, why to do these things. It all started when I saw this workout poster. http://pinterest.com/pin/249246160599583423/ If you can't see it, google "35 minute full body workout". It's a yellow poster with pink text. I did this workout last week before work and had classic rock workout channel on Pandora going as I did this. I can't tell you how DIFFERENT dumbbell training has made me feel. I'm up to 8# weights, and I'll probably increase that at the end of this next week. Training with weights with cardio mixed in, I burn 100 more calories than with cardio dvd's alone, even working for 15-20 more minutes with the dvd's. This poster I started with is only 35 minutes. I can burn 350-380 calories doing this. The rest of the day I feel like I'm floating. There's something addictive to working with weights. You walk around the rest of the day feeling so light and fit.

I've been looking into the anatomy and physiology of it all and I'm learning that cardio only is not advantageous for me. If I can add more muscle, not only will I sculpt my body, but I will burn more calories during the day when I'm just sitting around. I'm digging that. :) Here is one article I found on weights vs. cardio. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/livestrongcom/the-truth-about-weight-training-vs-cardio_b_894936.html I know there is a ton of contradicting info out there, you can find an article on anything you want to prove. LOL...I'm NOT saying this is the ONLY way to lose weight. I've lost 43.7# since July 2, 2012 with cardio. But I've been stuck for 3 months or so. I'm going to follow this up in a few weeks with a review of how it went. (This new routine of cardio/ weights circuit training)

I'm using my husband's spiral notebook- "Muscle & Fitness Training Notebook. The complete illustrated guide to the 75 best muscle building exercises" to pick which exercises to do for specific muscles. I'm not looking to 'bulk' up, which for women as I understand it is really hard to do because of the testosterone differences. I just want that sexy, sculpted, fit body, not just slimmer. :)

Thoughts, experiences, ideas, and resources are welcome...
