Help!!

So I'm really getting confused and frustrated at the moment because I just don't know exactly how many calories I'm burning.
I have been going off my treadmill at home mostly. Now I am up staying with my mum who has a different treadmill and the two readings are totally different, despite doing the same speed etc my mum's treadmill says I burn like a hell of a lot less.
I have also been using the "Map my walk" and "Run keeper" apps for iPhone but they give significantly different readings as well.
I was thinking about getting a "Fitbit" or is there a better one out there?
I just need to make sure I'm being accurate.

TIA

Fitbit is great for seeing how active you are throughout the day and getting a rough estimate of calories burned outside of exercise.

For cardio exercise, you want a HRM with a chest strap. Polar brand is highly recommended if you can afford it. I'm on a tight budget so, I got a Pyle Sports Watch w/chest strap from amazon.com for $26.

I have both a fitbit zip and a HRM.

I recently got a HRM, I burn just about exactly half of what my elliptical says I burn, every time.

It is pretty safe to go by about half of the calories any machine says you burned.

Hi! The most accurate way to determine your calorie burn is with a fit bit or a HRM. Using what a treadmill states is not accurate. Fit bit is really nice and is probably the most accurate but a little more pricey. I use a polar FT4 HRM that I got pretty reasonable with a chest strap that I wear everyday and it's pretty accurate. I guess determining how serious you are about losing weight and keeping accurate calorie deficits will determine on whether you want to spend the money on a device. Good luck.
