This is what a "record" songlist looks like....

OK, this is completely stupid and self-indulgent, so ignore this if you like.

I use the "calories burned" feature on my machines not necessarily as a weight loss tool, but as a measure of progress. Total calories burned during a workout represent the total amount of aerobic work performed. If you are on a machine and varying the resistance levels, speed, etc all during the workout, then total calories burned is the best (only?) way to compare workouts and chart your progress. It doesn't make any difference whether it 's an accurate number compared to "actual" calories burned--since the numbers are based on the actual workload on the machine, they work fine for comparison purposes.

I work almost 12 hours on Sundays at my fitness center--6:45 am to 6:15 pm. Because Sundays are slower, I am the only fitness specialist on duty. Because of that, I have been making Sundays my day off. However, I was feeling a bit under the weather last week and took some extra days off, ate a little too much, and felt compelled to do something Sunday. So, I got home from work, took about 45 minutes sitting in my workout clothes to finally get up the energy to start and hit the stair master in my basement.

My plan was to do an higher-intensity interval workout because I didn't think I had the energy to do more than 20 min or so. Sometimes I find that music motivates me, other times I can give a top performance and not even notice it's on.

In this case, it really got me going. In one of those impetuous moves, I said the heck with a warm up and launched right into a fairly high level. I then took it up another notch and just pushed myself to keep going. Some days, when you commit to going hard, you find reserves you didn't think you had (which is the whole point)--this was one of those nights. I ended up doing a new PB in "calories" for a 30 minute workout on this machine.

I have a special playlist of more up tempo music that I use for these types of workouts. I always keep the iPod on shuffle, so here is what came out:

Breathless --The Corrs
Don't you Tell Your Mother --Lisa Haley and the Zydecats
Stay in or Stay Out/Pass the Dutchie -- Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin
Everybody Ona Move --Michael Franti and Spearhead
Whiskey Trail -- Los Lobos
Can't Get Nowhere -- The Tractors
Lay Down Sally -- version by Delbert McClinton
One Bad Stud -- The Blasters

And after that I had stuffed peppers and greek yogurt w/fresh berries for dessert. Now if that doesn't make you feel "renewed", I don't know what does.

hahaha, nice - although I gotta admit, I don't recognize a single one of those songs!. I use the calories burned feature on the treadmill and tell the machine that I only weigh 150 lbs, that way I never overestimate - otherwise it says stupid things like 1000 calories in 30 mins.

I never recognize any of the songs other people list, either--so this is my revenge

My exercise songs are more heavily weighted with zydeco and rockabilly/swamp pop type stuff--everyone's got their own groove!
