Does type of lifting program matter for weight loss?

I am eating a deficit (TDEE - 20%) and doing cardio for weight loss. I've still got a good 45lbs to lose before I start bulking up and eating for gains. People keep suggesting that I start lifting to help maintain my lean body mass and I'm just wondering if it matters what type of program I use? On jefit there's 20,000+ programs, there's strong lifts, beginners strength, etc. Since I'm just trying to maintain muscle while eating on a deficit, does it really matter what program I do as long as I do it three times a week consistently?

For me...no. I mix it up with machines, free weights and exercises using body weight (like push ups). I don't really pay attention to any particular program. My muscles are noticably defined and I've steadily lost weight. I would strongly suggest lifting weights! I've tried losing in the past with just cardio and it didn't work. This time I've dropped 30 lbs since January and I think part of the success is lifting. I've also noticed that once I got some good muscles going I can eat a little more (I go a little over my calories almost every day now) and I'm still losing!

No, it does not matter. You just need to do some resistance training.

That can be bodyweight workouts (You are Your Own Gym for example), it can be weights, it can be resistance bands, suspension trainers, any of it, all of it. What's most important is that you find something that you love to do so that you will do it consistently. A lot of people find things that they like on NerdFitness.

What kind of resistance workout sounds appealing to you?

If we're talking about weight loss, then no. Calorie deficit matters more.
