Planking

How do I log planking onto my routine?
All it asks me on the strength training is the x amount of reps on there. Should I put it onto cardio because of the x amount of minutes I plank for?

According to a newsletter I got from my gym that has new/ different workouts in it sometimes. The "average" 150lb person burns about 10 calories per 1 min of plank. I'm not sure exactly how they came up with these numbers but it doesn't seem like a bad estimate. Just doing a plank will not really get your heart rate going, it's not a cardiovascualr exercise which are the big calorie burners. Hope that helps

-_-; If only Fitocracy and My Fitness Pal would team up together then I'd have the best of both worlds.

I would recommend using a calisthenics version to record things like this. There is vigorous, and moderate. I always use the moderate one.

I spent some time doing these with my trainer on Saturday. Ummm...ouch. Still sore!

    Plamerar,
My question is this......if a person 150 lbs burns about 20 calories per minute doing a plank, then I should be safe assuming a person weight about 250 would burn about 30 calories per minute plank? Wish MFP had planking already in their data base.

    Thanks for your help,
    Agatha

Like others have said don't log them. I don't. They don't burn as much as you'd like.

In the cardio section of exercise you can type in "strength training," and an option will come up where you can type in how many minutes you spent doing strength exercises and it will give you a number of calories burned. It will be a very low number for the amount of pain and suffering you went though! :)

it's a stationary move- you're burning minimal calories- I'd chalk it up to the milk I put into my coffee and call it a day- i wouldn't even bother logging it. It's just not that intense of a work out no matter how much it burns and you hurt. You are not physically moving.

I wouldn't log it either. Actually I don't log any exercise in MFP. I already figued in exercise when I calculated my TDEE. I don't like logging exercise in MFP because it falsely tricks you into thinking you can eat more just because you worked out. But if you already figured your TDEE correctly, you shouldn't log workout here or it will mess you up.
