Overeaters Anonymous...

Has anyone ever been to a meeting/is a practicing member? I am realizing that my problem with my weight (which I have been struggling with my ENTIRE life) has less to do with diet and exercise, and more to do with a root emotional/spiritual problem. I compulsively overeat to suppress emotions and to escape from real life. I'm considering going to an OA meeting tonight. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or feedback before I go.

I went for a while. It was calming, helpful, but I stopped going when I realized that I needed a nutritionist rather than OA. They will not allow you to mention specific foods by name, in case the name of the food could be a trigger for someone else. You choose your own abstinence and it is a 12 step program. I choose snacking between meals as my abstinence. You could choose sugar, eating only clean foods, whatever you want. It is a personal decision. Some folks were binge eaters, others struggled with bulimia or anorexia, so the whole spectrum was represented. Hope this helps.

I didn't know there was such a group. Sorry!
