Determing a serving size when at the office

Sometimes I walk out the door and get to the office an realize that I left all my prepared food on the counter. So this means that I have to go to the cafe at work. I find it so hard to determine a serving size. Like 4 oz of cottage cheese. How does everyone determine a serving size when not bringing something with them to the office? Thanks

It doesn't seem like there really is a good way to do this. If you can get something that is pre-packaged with nutrition information on it that is obviously a better bet than just eyeballing it. Try to think of how much space the item would normally take up if you measured it and replicate. Maybe log in more than you think you had just to be safe? Perhaps ask someone that works in the cafe how big the serving spoons or containers are?0

I keep a set of measuring spoons in my desk. It helps me keep honest with stuff like peanut butter and dressing. You could do the same with a set of measuring cups. I bought my measuring spoons for less than $1.0

I agree with both of the above ideas, but if you do need to eyeball it, here's a chart that could help you estimate:
