I would ask for men only, but I know the women won't listen. I am looking for some medical advice, but don't want to pay a $25 copay for this.
So, at the urging of some of the guys in the locker room, I have started attending the morning spin class at my gym. I really like it, and started looking for ways to improve my performance by reading all of the back issues of "Cycling" magazine that my library owned. I had read an article that mentioned cyclinig performance could be improived by depileation. So, I have been shaving myself from head to toe every few days.
So, here is my problem. I've developed a very large growth on my *kitten*. It's about the size of a large bead, and white in color with a black center. It's very warm and painful. I'm assuming it's an ingrown hair. What I want to know is should I pop it myself, or have it done professionally? What do you think?

I think I'd come off the $25 dude.0

Yes honey, go to a doctor. Even if it is just an ingrown hair, trying to relieve it yourself could make it more red and painful, and using dirty hands could make it infected.0
-
hot shower and pop it yourself, it might hurt a bit, maybe change your razor blade too :glasses:0
-
anything involving a strange growth on my nuts..... straight to the doctor's. Cough up the copay and the slight embarrassment.0

What I would do if it were me: clean the area with alcohol, lance it with a clean needle, squeeze it out, re-clean with alcohol and then cover in antibac ointment. If it doesn't start to heal pretty quickly, I'd fork over the $25.0

Ingrown hairs can be extremely painful. It really depends on your pain tolerance. I know you asked for men to respond, but women are not excluded from ingrown hairs. If you are going to pop it yourself, make sure that your hands and the general area are thoroughly cleaned before hand. Wishing you the best of luck!

In between fits of laughter...man, that's just nasty...pay the $25.
You could probably lance it yourself, but it's too close to the family favorites.0 -
Probably we should see a picture though to give a correct diagnosis...0

Sounds like a pimple, just pop it.
and 2nd, why don't you shave your head while you're at it too... bike barefoot, and naked... i mean seriously.. don't buy in to that bs.
And depletion? Like carb depletion... No, that will cause you to gain a lot of weight when you eat your carbs, and lower your VO2Max which is weight dependent. All you can really do is, improve your VO2Max, and lactate threshold, and endurance, that's about it.
Not depletion. depileation. The removal of hair.0 -

I'd post it but I don't want the strike.0 -
In Grown hair. Take a hot shower after a double shot of your favorite anesthetic and pop it.0

I'm a girl. yes, but it's ok. this is science. How long has it been since you noticed the ingrown hair?0

This is just for outdoors, you don't have the same conditions in a spin class. Depileation is to reduce wind drag, just like in swimming to reduce water drag. Its not going to help your preformance in a spin class.
As for the ingrown hair, hot compress and leave it alone. It will either rupure or go away on its own. It it doesn't go and see your doctor and let them do it.0 -

It started small 3 days ago... Now it's grown a bit.0 -

What? Why would they mention that in a cycling magazine. Maybe they shold have made mention of htis before I started to shave myself.0 -
Maybe you're pregnant? Are you sexually active?0

Nahhh i think they just wanted to see how many people they could get to shave their whole body, including the parts that wouldn't create wind drag!0 -
