Thinking about food all the time

I was always a food person - like my dad. We like good food and like to eat. And if it's tast good, we can eat tons of it.
Since I'm here to control my portions I think about food - what can I eat next - all the time. I calculate the whole days with my calories to check what I can possibly eat next. Hate it. It feels like everything in my life circles around my next meal. I already feel like a food maniac.

Does some one else also has the problem?

Yes I am the same way..kind of feeling like an addiction at this point. I like being addicted to this much more than the overeating but I guess mine comes from being newer to all this and just trying to learn alot..hopefully i will calm down with the madness eventually :) Good luck!!!!
  • I always think about what i can eat next, trying to eat right and not to much. Ithink its not bad but i to love good food always have. just fight the battle of wieght and health problems.:

Also new to this (week six), and having the same issue. Though it's not affecting me negatively I don't think. I just notice that I'm thinking about food, fitness, health, etc, a lot more than I ever use to. Which I suppose is a good thing since when I thought about it before I was wondering what chocolate or sugary goodness I could consume next. Now I'm thinking more about "how can I get closer to my protein/iron goals," and "I'm still five hundred calories under my limit! I can have a bowl of strawberry ice cream tonight and STILL be under goal!" So I guess I still think about sugary goodness a little. Old habits die hard?

Of course, you are not alone. I love to cook. I love good food. I even have a food blog (www.heidicookssupper.com). I read about food, including the history of food. I watch food TV. And there's no reason I shouldn't continue to do these things as a foodie. Not all foodies are morbidly obese like I am. They behave as slim people by eating LESS not LESSER food. And by moving more.

My foodie habits have survived and even thrived in the two months I've been on MFP and lost 13 lbs. I just am cooking a little differently and calculating the calorie count of what I cook. I got back out the olive oil mister instead of using a "glug" of oil all the time. I eat one slice of my homemade bread at a time instead of four. And I'm moving more -- ANY is more than not at all, yes?

So, go to the produce aisle and knock yourself out! Did you know that there are both Indian and Thai recipes for a curry made with sweet potato and eggplant? No? Well, it's surprisingly delicious. How did I find this? Well, I googled "eggplant sweet potato" just to see what came up and then made it. Even hubby liked it!

I'm vegetarian and have always been a healthy eater. I never (even as a child) liked sweet stuff, I don't have to watch myself here. For me it was always and still is hard to watch the amount of what I eat, because if it tasts good (and it mostly does), I can eat tons of it.

I have been self sabotaging lately but the best and most successful time I had not obsessing about food is when I ate balanced. I just recently found out I have a gluten sensitivity so it makes sense lowering (NOT cutting out) my carbs helped. Once I got my diet down I almost never was hungry and therfor didnt think about food as often.

It kind of looked like this:
Carbs in the morning, smoothie, protien bar, eggs, banana
Fruit and veggies for lunch, soup, meatless lean cuisine-even though sodium rich, salads (limited carbs)
Fruit , low cal stuff for a snack, watermelon was very good for a snack cause it filled you up
A normal dinner like meat, potato, veggies but limit carbs- sometimes carb free- one of my favorite low carb side dishes is green bean casserole. You can have a heaping portion for like 200 calories/ Limit red meat as its higher cal
Popcorn. low fat ice cream, juice pop for a night snack

Keep eating a bunch of food but find "balanced foods". Its not about denying yourself, its about finding the right things to eat. I cant read your diary but if your eating pastas and sugars your going to be hungry quicker.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I always think about what I am going to eat next and count down the hour suntil my next meal/snack. I hate always being preoccupied with food. :( Glad to know I'm not alone though.

I've had this problem all my life, even when I wasn't watching what I ate. So yeah, you're not alone in feeling this way. I just try to put a positive spin on it. Think of it this way, your ancestors obviously survived by making sure they got enough to eat, by thinking about where their next meal came from. They were successful and they passed that on to you! Small consolation, I know, but it's nice to think we descended from a bunch of genetic winners.

Well, I think that is my silly post for the day.

There is so much yummy food out there and I wanna eat it all. So I calculate all the time to get enough calories together to have a delicious meal - even when it means I have to cut breakfast and lunch to save the calories for the dinner. Argh! Or I go and work out just to have more calories to eat. Haha - I'm obsessed with food and eating.
